      How??

right, yesterday i read this site and found it interesting so i thought i would give it a go, i failed miserably, i just don't understand how people control their dreams. In my dreams i don't seem to have any control over the things i say and do, it's more like a show that i am watching rather than one i have a part in. How do you take control of your dreams?

that said, when i woke up in the morning i tried to think what dream i had and had no luck, but then i started to remember. i wont bother describing what happened because my dreams a extremely stupid and do not make sense, i will however say that at one point i tried to call someone on a phone. so i took out my mobile phone so i could copy out the number and dial it on a different phone as i looked down at the number it didn't make sense
it started of with a number and then there were random lines and maybe even a letter if i remember correctly. Is this a sign that i should have noticed?

      thanks

Both trouble dialing phones and trouble reading are very common in dreams. You have to condition yourself to remember to do a reality-check in such cases.

You should take a look at the tutorials on this site to get an idea of ways to get started with your dreaming. It does take some discipline, but just about anyone can learn it.

      K Dude.

First of all, you found this site yesterday. Do not be discouraged from having failed miserably in one night of trying. I've tried this on and off for the past two years and I've had one LD lol but I'm not as dedicated as some people that can have 3 lds a night 3 nights a week. Incredible.

Secondly, DO NOT think that your dreams are ridiculous and stupid. Everybody's are. Just take a read through the Dream Journals section and you'll know what I mean. Especially if you read dreams that aren't lucid (like you own). Wacky bo-backy, fee-fi, fo-facky.

Thirdly, as skysaw said, text and letters are all jumbled when reading anyway so it's not just you that's having trouble with it. Also, technology in general seems to misfire in dreams for some odd reason...

Fourthly, keep at it. We're in the same boat and I'm trying to become a regular LDer and not having too much luck but I'm keeping at it. Stick with it.

Hey bullit, welcome to the forum, what your experiencing is exactly what i experienced when i first started lucid dreaming, i always felt like the observer of my dreams, if you try keeping a dream journal of all the dreams you remember each night you will find that it will strengthen your memory and you will start to feel more a part of your dreams instead of the observer. Seriously though if you work hard on improving what you can recall through a dream journal you will find things will get better

      Welcome to the forum bullit.

As LS said, you'll find it helps a lot to work on your recall. Start to keep a journal for a few weeks and see where that takes you.

bullit, you found us yesterday.. talk about wanting instant gratification!

Some people take days, weeks, months or even years to have their first lucid dream.

You've been given some good advice by skysaw, Citizen and LS.

The key is to not get discouraged. With pratice and patience, everyone can learn to lucid dream.

thanks for all the advise guys, i just wish i had more control in my dreams. it's like i should be doing a reality check in the dream but i have no control over what i am doing in the dream. think of it as you watching someone... you have know control over what they say and do. that what it is like and when i woke up i knew what i should have done.

as for all these techniques like getting up in the middle of the night, i really can't be doing them. i'm awful at getting up in the mornings let alone at 4am, are these nessecary foor getting an LD. i really don't want to be having to go through all that

oh well, i'm off to bed now... hopefully i will make some progress.

      Bullit,
You mentioned that you knew you should have done an RC when sleeping, but you also have to do them while awake. Things you do in your dreams are things you do in real life, so make a habit of doing a reality check and not just going through the motions.

Even though this helps, people miss obvious hints (oxymoron?) in their dreams. Just check out this thread.

Hopefully this boosts your confidence... I thought I had little confidence but MAN! Let's go! Be excited! If you work at it, you'll get it! Do a dance!

Welcome. I think I'm going to get as much advice from your thread as you are. I'm completely an observer in my dreams as well. Sometimes I even see myself from an outside perspective. From my experience with the dreams I've had so far, doing an RC would be almost impossible because it's like I'm not even in the dream. Most of the time it's like the memory of how the dream went is implanted in my brain after I had it. It's like trying to change events in a movie after it's been filmed, packaged, and sold, and you are watching it at home.

another failed attempt, however i feel this was inevitable. some thing was happening with the neighbours, the police were round their at like 3 in the morning and the people were shouting. this seemed to go on for hours and it took me ages to get back to sleep. no progress at all, i can barely remember anything about my last dream aswel, i wrote down what very little i did remember.
