      Was I close to something?

      Hi all,

Still new to this whole experience. I looked through many posts the other night and downloaded an mp3 from one of the other boards that was designed to aid in reaching a lucid state.

I listened to it several times (on repeat while I was laying in bed) and if nothing else it was VERY relaxing and some vivid dreams. But after it finished playing I was still "awake." What I am curious about is the condition I woke up in (a description follows):

I could open my eyes and look around the room (everything was kinda blurry). What surprised me is that I really couldn't feel my body, and it took me (what seemed like) several minutes to move enough to take the headphones out of my ears. It was like I was moving through water (or some other viscous substance).

Was I close to something like sleep paralysis or does this sound like something else to anybody?

      Hey there,

That actually sounds like it was a mild form of sleep paralysis to me

Hey JungianShrink! Welcome to the forum

What you experienced sounds like the exiting of a dream, you were probably waking from the dream however you were still in Sleep Paralysis, this is why your body felt empty and like nothingness until it became mushy and you gained more control. Its a natural phase and sometimes we will experience it when awakening from a dream, as for the blurred vision it is explainable because you were exiting the dream and our vision is often a bit cranky when we first wake in the morning eh!

Hell yeah you were in Sleep Paralysis, good job on it aswell! It would be great to use this to your advantage and try using it to induce a lucid dream. If you have any other questions please do feel free to ask

Sweet, I will definately hafta try that again tonight (maybe add a few more loops on the playlist). Any advice that might help get me all the way there (besides practice of course )?

I also downloaded that brainwave generator program, and its an interesting one, I listen to the "study aid" while I study (with iTunes playing over it) and I do notice a difference in my focus. Think that program could help as well?

Ah, I used to have that brainwave generator stuff, but lost the link. Any chance you could post the link?

I think that the brainwave generator program can definately work, i have tried it in the past and noticed that i become more focussed and aware. However i sometimes wonder if it is a placebo effect. Just try it, experiment with it, see how it goes, all you can really do is experiment until you find what works best for you.

My suggestion is that when you are in SP and you feel yourself awakening, try and relax yourself, keep your mind focused and try your best to hold yourself in this stage of sleep, keep your body relaxed and keep your mind focused. That is the key, just keep reminding yourself that it will all become a dream because if your not constantly checking up on yourself you may just fall asleep and not realise at all. Try your best

I experience sleep paralysis enough to say that i am pretty sure that was what you experienced.
