Wanted to say hello and ask a question.

I am new to this site. However I have been able to control my dreams on and off for a long time. I did not know there was a name for it. I also have learned some interesting things reading this site. I always thought that if you cant do it in real life you cant do it in your dreams. For example , Flying, having magic powers , stuff like that. Now that I have read this site I thing my dreams will be allot more fun.

My question has to do with medications. I recently had to go to a spine doctor, I found out that I have a bulging disc in my neck, it was giving me bad headaches. I was given injections to help with the pain and stop the headaches. I was also given pain pills. Vicodin, I only use them when I get a bad headache that wont go away. So I am not on a regular dose. Will this medication stop me from controlling my dreams? I have not really had a dream I can remember in a while. I started to think that the drugs may have affected that. I usually have a dream 3 or 4 times a week that I can remember. of the 3 or 4 I can control parts or all of 1 or 2 of them. I stopped remembering dreams after my first injection (the injections are in my neck and they have to sedate me to do them) . Now its been a few weeks after my last injection and I finally had a dream I remember last night. I could not control any aspect of it, but I remember the dream vividly.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with dreaming related to pain medications.

I look forward to talking to you guys.

      JMDigital, welcome to Dream Views!

The only experience I've had with pain medication was that it made my dreams very strange and unpleasant (but that was before I knew about lucid dreaming).

It is entirely possible that any type of medication could affect your sleep and therefore your dreams. Does the medication have a warning on the label regarding such things?

I would think that as long as the medication wasn't preventing you from dreaming (nor tampering with your dream recall).. then becoming lucid and controlling your dreams wouldn't be affected (at least not drastically).

I'm sorry I don't have more of an answer for you.. hopefully there are other members who will provide you with more insight.

Hey JMDigital and to the forum!

Yup, pretty much anything is possible in lucid dreams, there are a few things that are not possible but they are really technical and i doubt you would even want to try them anyway.

Okay, in terms of your medication, i think that this could affect your dreaming, is there not a permanant treatment? I'm not too familiar with these sort of problems however i believe that these injections will not put you off completely. I think that lucid dreaming is a definate yes for you, you can do it. However i think that with the regular injections you may have to work a little harder to achieve lucid dreams. These headaches obviously are having an impact so why not try and do some meditation, block out the pain and know that the pain is something you can block out mentally. You just need to reduce your stress levels from this problem and i'm sure it will work. If your still not sure about things please feel free to drop me a PM Sweet dreams!
