Umm, perhaps instead of having the iPod or MP3 or whatever play non-stop feedback, you could make it have few minutes of silence in between audio? The first CD I made was non-stop talking, and it woke me up all the time too. But then I made a second CD, but between each clip there was a three minute pause. For example the CD would say:
"You are dreaming"
(pause for three minutes)
"Do a reality check"
(pause for three minutes)
etc etc.

If your audio device has pauses in between its messages, it would less likely wake you up maybe??

yeah the cassette i made for myself has a 3-minute pause between each message, or else it would wake me up too. i also always prepare myself before falling asleep that as soon as hear those lucid messages play themselves, I am going to do a reality check or whatever in my dream

I have heard a few, so designed my own.
These are really cool sounds and is uplifting.
I have overlayed "You are Dreaming, do a Reality Check now" in it 3 times.
The MP3 goes for 6 mins and the overlays are one near the beginning, one subltle one in the middle and one near the end. Any more and its too much.
I have modified it to loop smoothly, and it is designed to be played maybe once or twice before sleep and then later when you MILD/WILD whatever.
You can play it soft or loud.
Let me know what you think and if it needs fine tuning, or if the link goes dead.
