Thread: Hello All

Friends have told me about the idea of lucid dreaming in the past but I've only recently started exploring. The main reason I'd like to try it is because I find that some of my dreams actually end up happening in the real world. Problem is, I don't get enough info from the dreams to know when or where they will actually happen. For instance; about 3 months before my brother had a serious motorcycle accident I dreamed that I saw a man lying on a stretcher with his face torn off. In the dream I had no idea who the man was or what had happened to him. Then I got the call, went to the hospital and there was my brother on a stretcher with no face. The dream instantly came back to me and I realized that the man from my dream was indeed my brother. He has made a full recovery by the way. I kept telling myself while he was in the hospital that I could have done something to stop it if I had only paid more attention to the dream.
So, I decided to join this site and explore the possibilities. please feel free to offer any advice.

I dont think that even with more insight into your dream you would have been able prevent your brothers accident and as a motorbike rider of many years (decades actually) I can feel for him. Was your dream a premonition or just co-incidence? My motorcycling fear is coming off the bike on a hot day and being left lying on the hot bitumen, slowly cooking, Yuk.

I just wanted to say thanks for the encouragement. What a warm welcome you've given me I'm not sure if the fact that some of my dreams end up happening is coincidence or not. Not all of the dreams that "come true" are as profound as my brother's accident. Some of them are very simple and don't seem to be life changing at all. But I do know that when these events happen the dream instantly comes back to me.
I have started a dream journal but I'm having a little trouble with waking up during REM sleep. I'm a very heavy sleeper and when the alarm goes off it's tough to move. any suggestions?

Suggestion. Dont try to wake yourself up during REM sleep, thats when you want to stay asleep . You wont go lucid if you wake up but when you do, get stuck into the dream journal with everything you remember of any dream.
As for the alarm, if you put the alarm away from your bed so you virtually have to get out of bed to turn it off, you should form the habit of waking up more easily with the alarm. (PS. And NEVER hit the snooze button).

Excellent advice. Besides putting it far away, find an alarm that goes off more frequently than the standard snooze devices. I have one that triggers every five minutes for up to 30 minutes unless I press a series of buttons (it takes some thought and effort to do it as well). Not easy to snooze through that.
