Thanks for the welcome messages
In answer to Mes Tarrant's question, the only thing I did before going to bed was to read this site, so for being here!
I don't think I visited the site on the second night, when I didn't have any FA/LD experience, so it seems that reading about lucid dreaming is putting me in the right frame of mind before going to sleep.
Last night I went to bed after reading a few threads and posting my message, and had a couple of lucid experiences.
The first was a kind of double FA. I "woke" up, lying in bed and questioned whether or not I was really awake. I decided that I was, stuck a strip of newspaper to my forehead with saliva and went "back" to sleep. A little later, I "woke" again to find that the newspaper had disappeared. From this I concluded that I had in fact been dreaming the first time, and was now awake for real. At that point I woke up, thoroughly confused.
Later on, I had a dream which started as normally as any dream. Various locations and people didn't match up, but it was only towards the end when I found myself getting off a train at the beach that I started questioning it. I asked my brother if I was dreaming, and before he even answered, I realised he wasn't my brother at all, and I knew I was dreaming. I started rubbing my hands together to try and prolong the lucidity, but to no avail. I woke up straight away, with my hands still tingling!
I'll try spinning next time.
So, still nothing too major, but I've had my first - brief - lucid dream in a location other than my bed. I think I'm making progress
