      Wazza!

One lazy night of surfing I decided to wander around wikibooks. Featured books seemed like a good place to start. Always one to be intrigued by the mysterious, my eye was caught by "Lucid Dreams".
What I read was a revelation. I had heard of such things before. An old friend once told me about a dream where he was running from people trying to kidnap him, but he was in control of it. It tried thinking of a gun and one appeared in his hand. Unfortunately it didn't work. But that's not the point. I wished I could do stuff like that in my dreams, and the excitement of finding a Wikibook that taught me how to do it was exhilarating.
I instantly knew how I wanted to apply this skill, even before I got past the introduction page. I am developing a conworld (Constructed World, there's a wikibook on it too, but I had started this long before I knew the term for it). A fantasy world filled with magical beings, where the sun never sets but darkens and brightens and you can see the other side of the world by looking up. Confusing I know, but it makes sense in my head. Developing an imaginary world and a skill allowed me to do anything I could imagine went hand in hand. Why not go and live in the world I've created while awake in my sleep? Why not spend my hours sleeping developing it further? Use the time to form the land, erecting mountains and digging valleys. Use this time to build cities and create people. I created the world as a setting for my stories. Why not re-enact scenes and see how they work visually, or make the story happen before my eyes and improvise? Maybe I could step into the shoes of one of my characters and play his role? The ways this could apply to something I already love seems endless.
So far I've been trying to mainly WILD since I like the sound of inducing LDs myself rather than leaving it to chance, but maybe I'm getting ahead of myself there. I've also been using the 61 point method of relaxation.
It's been nearly three weeks since I found out about LDs. On the second day I think I may have had a three second one, and since then nothing. I've been trying to keep a dream journal to help my recall, but my schedule doesn't allow me to write in it when I wake up. Sigh. I realize I have a long way to go before I can begin terramorphing landscapes.
But the path is more easily tread with company than alone, no? That's why I'm here.

You sound really motivated, that should help you acheive lucidity more quickly. Creating a world in your mind sounds like a lot of fun and lucid dreaming will definitely make it a much better experience.

WILD is seen as a more difficult technique around here, but some people are naturals and can do it after only a little practice. WILDs are much, much more effective if coupled with WBTB, which is basically waking up after 5-6 hours of sleep, staying up anywhere from 5-30 minutes, and then attempting the WILD. We have plenty of superb tutorials about WILD and other techniques over in the Tutorials page. If WILD isn't working out for you, try some of the other techniques there. However, the one thing you should always do are Reality Checks, they're easy and can be very effective in helping you become lucid.

As for your problem with dream journaling, you should just write a few key words down when you wake up, and then sit down later when you have more time and try to write down the rest of the dream.

Feel free to ask if you have any other questions or I was unclear about something. Good luck with your lucid attempts, and welcome to the forum!

Grr. I don't like the idea of having to interrupt my sleep cycle, but it seems like the easiest way. I only ever get 6 hours of sleep a night anyway. Is there anything that doesn't require WBTB?

There are many options. WBTB enhances your chances of most of them, that's all. If you work on doing reality checks and recognizing dreamsigns, you may well find lucidity without WBTB.

It really makes a tremendous difference for most people though!

I don't have an answer to your question, but wanted to say welcome. I think it's cool what you're wanting to do. I've created a world of my own as well, but have a problem visualizing the layout of the major buildings. If I'd ever been in a Palace, I think I'd be able to visualize one.

If you do start out with just jotting down a few details of your dreams, just anything quick that you can remember, that will expand to better dream recall as you go. I sometimes repeat what I remember of my dream over and over until I can write something down, and that helps sometimes too.
All is not what it seems in your dreams.

So say I'm in the middle of erecting some complex building and my sleep is interrupted. Will I be able to come back and continue building the next night? Will I be able to save the details of a whole world in my head that I can leave and come back to and find it exactly as I left it?

I was reading somewhere, either here or LD4all forums, about giving your subconcious a name so you can address it and tell it to do things like retreiving forgotten memories. You can also use it to tell your subconcious to remind you when you are dreaming, and attain lucidity. What do people think of this technique?

Also, I have so much going on in my life that the only times I can remember to do RCs is when I log onto these forums or when I'm taking my morning piss. What memory device can I use to remind me to do RCs more regularly? How many times a day is it recommended to do RCs? Tutorials don't seem clear on this.
