Night terrors and sleep walking are closely related as both occur during stage four sleep, the deepest stage of sleep. Children generally grow out of them and pervasive night terrors in adults is not considered normal. Causes vary: being over tired, over-eating just prior to sleep, stress and the use of certain although widely defined drugs. While frightening for the observer the dreamer suffers little harm unless allowed to bang into walls or furniture. The dreamer also, typically but not always, does not recall the event. Check out www.nightterrors.org it has a good deal of info. You may have to lose one of the 'T's'. The whole name is Night Terrors Resource Center. |
