There are a whole lot of techniques - some work for certain people and others for the rest

Personally, I have trouble using WILD and MILD. I generally use dream induced methods involving reality checks and dream signs.
When desperate (in dry seasons) I try falling back on a soft alarm clock repeating every hour or so while sleeping.

As for control, theres a whole lot of ideas people have come up with... shortcuts, spinning, attraction, verbal commands.
