Keep forgetting to do reality checks..

Hi all, i r teh newb. So i had a dream last nite that was like I was leaving school and I walked outside and his mom and him were in a car with another friend of mine and his. Then for some reason I decided to get into a school bus then I was like, lets ride in this. So his mom got in with us and I started driving it like around a turn, then I got the exit of the school. And i said, you better take it from here, so I pulled the "e-brake" and it broke off. LOL, device failure. Then I look at my friend and I wake up. But anyway, in this dream, I TOTALLY forgot to do a reality check, if i had, I think I would have had a LD. However I did write it down and I am doing that kuz I usually remember my dreams well.

BTW, im 16. just got my liscense.

      cliffs:
      1. I wait for friend
      2. He pulls up in car
      3. I get into school bus
      4. They follow into school bus
      5. I drive school bus
      6. I pull e brake, and it breaks off.
      7. I wake up

Hey there, and welcome to the DV. It sounds like you've had some LD's before! Oh, and don't fret about forgetting the RC, It happens to me all the time, you've still got many chances, just try and do them in your waking life to try and make them routine, that way you don't have to try as hard in your dreams...anyways...just wanted to say Hello and Welcome...

what he said. it's just a matter of itme when doing reality checks becomes a habit and it floods over into your dreams. just keep doing them and its alright if you forget to do them.

For some people, they get LD's right when they hear about it, for others, it can take a while. Dont think there's anything wrong with you because you've been trying hard and you havent had an LD yet, and dont get frustrated, because when you finally do, it will all be worth it. I myself am having difficulty attaining high lucidity, but i'm not giving up.

so the trick is to practice the reality checks in real life, so they become routine and thus you will also do them in your dreams?

      thanks!

Nights: I had that same teacher in 9th grade, but I am not real sure that it was actually a woman. Eep!

I have been performing regular RC's since 6/28/04. In the third week I had a series of dreams in which I performed my RC but never recognized that I was dreaming. Since that week I have not even attempted an RC while dreaming, even though I am still doing them when awake.

Despite that, I had my first lucid dream 4 weeks after I started trying, and I had my second LD last night. Both times I caught on to dream signs unrelated to my regular RC. Both dreams are posted in this forum if you want more details.

I think that keeping a dream journal is probably the most important thing. I have many recuring dream elements that ONLY happen in my dream. Driving an unfamiliar car is an element in about 30% of my dreams, where as in reality I have not driven any car but my own in years. Also I have been in a monogamous relationship for 8 years, but in dreams I am frequently in bed with someone else. When you are aware of these things you will have reliable RC's that are already present in your dream life, if you would only recognize them.

Also, I think that doing the RC when awake helps to develop the thought habit of questioning your state. The physical action that you take is really secondary to the mental action of asking yourself if you are dreaming. Doing the RC also seems to strengthen your intention to dream lucidly, making you more likely to recognize a sign that you may not even be looking for.
