      My first post :P

Just joined today (obviously) I have been researching lucid dreaming and how to obtain it for a couple of weeks now and couldn't find any site that wasn't related to an extremist religous sect, a bunch of paranormals or to something trying to get you to buy things...

The trouble I have is the period before you enter the actual dream I think this is called the "hypnagogic state" where I feel like I am falling, spinning and I am actually physically paralyzed. I will wake up after jarring one of my legs out of paralysis and become fatigued and disoriented for about a minute.

Has this happened to anyone and is there anything how to avoid the shock you get from that ?

Besides that I would like to say hello the everyone on the forum and I wish myself and all of you good fortunes to you lucid/non-lucid dreaming adventures

Weird, I've never heard lucid dreaming connected to extremists.

The state that you are describing is called sleep paralysis and it often feels like you are falling, spinning, or being rocked. You do physically get paralyzed, that is how your body makes sure that you don't act out your dreams while you are awake. Waking up from a dream in which you are being active will result in a hypnogogic jerk. You mind is still sending signals to your legs or arms and they suddenly unparalyze.

Good luck with your lucid dreams and

Hi, welcome to the forums! If you're looking for a regular lucid dreaming site you've come to the right place. You'll find that everyone here is pretty chill and willing to help you with your questions.

You probably already or will soon recieve a welcome from one of the Dreamguides, feel free to ask them any specific sleep or dream related questions that come to mind.

As for your current problem, are you trying to avoid sleep paralysis altogether? If you are try sleeping in a sideways position or on your stomach instead of on your back, I've heard that it will help.

Our tutorial section has a lot of articles that you may find useful, check out our main site as well. Good luck.

      Thanks for the welcome guys

And umbrasquall...I have tried sleeping sideways, ending up stretching out then that hit me, I read about that "Night Hag" or "Shadow Hag" or whatever its called thing...have a feeling some cloaked dude is going to stare me down instead of getting paralyzed...would rather get paralyzed but I will try going sideways

And when I get passed the getting crushed part where do I choose a dream? Because I have been getting put near a long avenue near my house, happened for about 3 nights so far, anyway ensure that happens or should I just work on getting lucid?

Are you saying you find yourself on that ave repeatly in dreams? If that happens you could make it work for you. Try some reality checks, your trigger can be that location.

sorry for the delay...was copying all my dreams off paper and putting it in the comp w/ pics i made

I do find myself somewhere near the avenue...sometimes in different parts but mostly on that one...i keep forgetting to RC in dreams...i tried flying but i think i flew out of my body and lost lucidity...split myself in half kinda inadvertantly trying a new flight method...wasn't fun, got spun into another dream and woke up because someone woke me up...

Has that ever happened before? Someone trying to fly and they "fly out their body" it was a wierd feeling...I saw myself below moving and felt like I was a flying-eyeball w/ senses tho..

That sounds reasonable. It hasn't happened to me before though. Try PM-ing a DG to ask about it. How is your LDs been going these past few days?
