Hey there, welcome to the site !
I am pretty new here too, and believe me; it's a great site
I wish I could go to sleep at 9, way too early for me and most of the time have homework .
I think that what you are doing is a very good start, especially if you keep a dream journal.
It doesn't hurt to start of with trying to WILD, although it comes in handy to have a good dream recall going on .
I tell myself before I go to bed that when my dream has ended I have to wake up, remember the dream, and write it down. This works very decent; it's like setting an alarm clock, your mind "sets" itself to it, and you wake up a few minutes before the clock actually goes off.
Be sure to do a lot of reality checks during the day, like check your watch every hour, then don't look for a few seconds and then look again. (During the day of course this doesn't change), and then tell yourself you are not dreaming.
There are a few tutorials on how to do reality checks, and also a lot about the different LD'ing techniques.
This behaviour makes you remember this action in your dream, and lets you reality check in your dream. Then you find you are dreaming, and perhaps get lucid !
Ok well, that's about it There's a lot of people here who know a LOT, so just ask and see
