Question could this be a problem?

Hi DV people I am really new to this whole LDing thing and was wondering if my tv (I leave it on to drown out the noise of the highway I live next to) would be interfering with me being able to become lucid?

First of all... Welcome to DV!

Second, like ushamie mentioned, the TV wouldn't distract you any more than the highway noise. Do whatever feels comfortable for your sleeping.

I would also suggest giving a try to some earplugs. You can probably find some good ones for real cheap, and they would help you concentrate and sleep if you decide to try WILD (Wake Induced Lucid Dreaming).

Hello and welcome to Dream Views.

If you're used to the sound of your television as you sleep it shouldn't bother you. But if you discover that it keeps dragging you back from the verge of sleep it's probably best to turn it off or down or invest in ear plugs... like the others suggested.

Why not listen to relaxing music while you sleep? That might be nicer than having to listen to the television.

And with this lovely lead in by Vex..

AJS Resurrected, you could also listen to the various MP3s and MP4s posted on this forum which have lucid dreaming inductions and/or subliminals imbedded in music that you can listen/fall asleep to.

If you click on the "Search" link next to the "Staff" link above and use the search words "mp3* download" or "mp4* download".. you will be provided with a lot of posts that include mp3s/mp4s that you can download for free.

As for the forum, you might want to review the Newbie Zone Guide for helpful information about this site: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=36723

You may also want to check out the Tutorials forum which contains information on the various lucid dreaming techniques and other helpful information: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...splay.php?f=25.

If you should have any additional questions, please ask and we'll do our best to get you answers.

I would go even further and say that the TV could actually help you become lucid. Normally, when you're deep in sleep, you won't be aware of outside noises. But every now and then something can creep in. The sound of a television program might trigger within you the memory that you went to sleep, and that the TV is on in real life. This could be an excellent way to become lucid.

Nope, not if you're used to it. I would recommend the Subliminal Lucid MP4 version 3.0 that I made. It's nice and relaxing and should cover up traffic nicely.

I'm with Skysaw on this one. The TV can be a hindrance, but I had a lucid dreams last Friday evening that was assisted by the TV.

I was very tired, and I kept falling asleep and jerking awake on the couch. The program (it was the History Channel) would be audible whether I was asleep or awake. Eventually, I found myself waking and falling back asleep directly into a dream over and over. After a few cycles, my consciousness was unchanged whether I was awake or asleep. It was a repeating cycle of groggy waking and lucid dreaming, narrated by the TV.

Hmm.. better copy that to my DJ.

I leave my TV on also. Usually it just influences my dream. Whatever show or whatever is being talked about ends up in my dream with my DCs
