      Apocalyptic Dreams?`

      Hello,

This is my first time at this site. I have been having these ultra vivid dreams lately and they seem to be ramping up.

Let me start by saying that these dreams seem to have a tactile component as well. I can taste, hear, and feel the air moving in these dreams.

There is nothing surreal about them, and they appear to happen in real time.

I dream that I'm in a mountainous region of the tropics standing at an outdoor restaurant/bar nested up on a hill in the rain forest. The night is especially clear. Tons of stars. The bar sits in a sheltered valley with a clear view of the night sky.

I look up and notice the moon, but it's huge, in fact too huge to be normal.

      That's when the trouble starts:
The moon begins to grow even larger and larger, as it hits the atmosphere of the earth plumes of energy begin to blast from it as the moon enters out atmosphere. Of course, I realize that it's the end of the world.

What's even weirder is that I'm relatively unafraid, even dispassionate about it; clinical one might say.

I have them fairly regularly, perhaps once a month. They are hyper-real, unlike other dreams I have. (I also have the usual dreams, flying, violent, often bizarre abstracts, etc.) but these dreams are of particular interest to me.

I'd love to take control of one of these dreams.

      Any suggestions?

Well, The moon is the main thing that will probably get you control. In real life try to do a reality check whenever you look at the moon.

Then you will be used to it so when you have the dream again you will see the moon getting bigger and do a reality check and realize that you are in a dream which hopefully will make you lucid. It might wake you up so stay calm and relaxed even after you realize you have finally gotten control of the dream youve been waiting for so long to control.

      Well i hope this helps

      Nick

      Thanks Nick.

I now understand what reality check means. You are using familiar "reference" symbols (such as the moon) to train your mind to recognize when it's in a different state? So the 'reality check' is a way to kinda compare.

      Am I getting this right?

John, reality checks and dream signs go hand in hand.

Dreams signs can be unusual or they can be ordinary things, places or people that appear in the majority of your dreams.. sort of a recurring theme or cast.

The idea is that if you see your dream signs in real life.. you should think "I'm dreaming" and then do a reality check to verify either that you are or are not dreaming. This way hopefully if you should see your dream signs while sleeping/dreaming, you will be conditioned to do a "verifying" reality check.

Oh, and welcome to Dream Views!

Thanks Clarity. This is fastinating. I had no idea that there was such an enthusiastic community devoted to lucid dreaming techniques. I also read your WILD technique.

As an aside, does anyone know of a site that might provide REM sleep detectors at a reasonable cost?

soundman, I'm not sure what you think is a "reasonable" cost but I did find the following websites that supposedly sell NovaDreamers (or an equivalent device).. but I haven't ordered from these companies so order at your own risk!

      http://www.remdreamer.com/

      http://www.mind-gear.com/cat/novadrea.htm

      http://lonezone.com/2000/catalog/6833.html

P.S.. If you have seizures.. you probably should stay away or clear using such devices with your doctor.

I've been having dreams like this too just recently, but it's been meteors, and for some reason I keep thinking that it hits San Juan.
