Thread: Dream Characters, what are they really and how do they work?

Hey! I've been wondering, since everything in your dreams are your own content and your thoughts and values so shouldn't DCs be copies of you?
Not by the way they look but in the way they act.
Or is it very individual?

Everyone acts differently during the day and your brain remembers how everybody acts... Your brain will transmit what it knows into a lucid dream... (There's an easier way to explain this but I can't find the words)

Dream characters are just creations of your mind. If you couldn't imagine anyone acting different than you, then everyone would act the sam ein a dream.

But, I'm pretty sure you can imagine how different people would act, or how your friends or parents would act.

Everything with dreaming is individual because it is contained entirely within your own mind.

You could create copies of yourself in your dreams if you wanted to. You know what, that actually sounds rather cool. 200 other Me's to look at would be fun.

Even though dreams are made by your mind, they're not really created from your thoughts and values. If I had to summarize it in two words, I'd say that they're more like your memories and expectations. Since you remember lots of people who are different from you, and you expect other people to act differently from you, naturally dream characters are often different from you.

They are how you perceive that person. So they aren't you, they are your perception.

Say you see a guy walking towards you, he's got a hooded sweatshirt pulled up over his head and wearing baggy pants. His hands are in his pocket and you can see tattoos on his neck and arms. How would you perceive someone like that? Take a moment and picture it before reading on.

You probably though of him as someone you'd want to stay away from, so that's who he'd be in your dream. Your perception will be different from mine. I know a reverend who dresses like that all the time and has tattoos of crosses on both wrists That's who he'd likely be in my dream.
