      Hi questions from a newbie

      Greetings to all...

I've been lurking on your website for about 1 month now... and began trying to lucid dream since 3/11/08. Last night was the 12th night that I have manually recorded my dreams in a journal and I had been doing reality checks frequently during the day. None of the last 11 nights was I even remotely lucid. Only last night was I even halfway lucid. But I can't really be sure.
I was in a dream where my brother had brought a girl to our house. While he and I were discussing things, his girlfriend went into the other room. My brother and I left that room and continued speaking. I said to him that this girl can't be his girlfriend because his girlfriend was Nancy. He obviously denied that and continued to insist that the girl in the other room was his girlfriend. I insisted that this must be a dream and that this can't be real. But I still got pissed off and knocked him down because he refused to listen to me. I was thinking the whole time that this is a dream and I would wake up any minute. I looked at the clock on the wall, but the clock didn't shift or change. It was an analog clock. I usually do RCs with my computer screen or with my cellphone. This time, I looked at the clock and passed the Reality check. I still believed it was a dream though I passed the RC test but I then woke up in my bed.

I've never had a lucid dream before and some of the events in this dream seemed to point to me being lucid and some did not.

I realized I was dreaming. But I couldn't prove that I was dreaming. I based my realization on the fact that Ken brought home a girl other than Nancy. But in real life, Nancy was his past girlfriend and not his current one. So my basis for thinking it was a dream was incorrect.

Also, I didn't seem to be able to control my actions. All I could do was insist that this was a dream and that my brother needs to realize that the other girl is not his girlfriend and that this was a dream. But I didn't have any control of my own actions except for the knowledge that this was a dream and that I had to communicate that fact to my brother.

Is this still considered a lucid dream?

      , Dimensiongod!

You were aware that you were dreaming, therefore you had a lucid dream. You don't have to do stuff to make it an LD.

Yeah, usually the clock RC works, but it didn't move in yours. I guess that's bad luck.

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

If you knew that you were dreaming, then you had a lucid dream. You didn't have control, but you still were aware of the fact that you were dreaming. That means you had a lucid dream.

As for the reality check, sometimes they don't work. Sometimes clocks don't change, text stays the same, you can't breathe through your nose. Don't get discouraged - it doesn't happen very often.

As suttsman said, if you have any other questions, feel free to contact me or any of the other green named Dream Guides.

      Welcome to the board, dimensiongod...

Good job on your LD. As the others have mentioned, for it to be an LD, all you need is to be aware that you are dreaming. Dream control comes with experience and practice. You should have many more LDs to get better at this.

One thing you might want to do is to decide what you want to accomplish in your next LD. As I go to sleep at night I imagine myself doing that. I find that really helps me to remember what I want to do when I become lucid.

I'm glad you found you way to this board. This is a great way to learn and to share your experiences.

If you haven't yet check out the Qucik Start Guide at the top of this Newbie Forum. It has good info about this board and LDing.
