Almost went lucid last night.. got excited

So yeah, last night was the first time this past week and a half that i've been back that I came close to being lucid. I can't recall the whole dream (it was the first dream I had on the night) but I could recall it pretty well right after it happened. Basically what happened is I was with one of my best friends from high school and he handed me a hat and I remember saying something.. I can't even remember what I said, but it had to do with him not dreaming or something??? anyway, whatever I said, right after I said, then I must be dreaming. Once I said that I was like, oh sweet I'm gonna be lucid!!!! and then I thought, oh shit.. calm down calm down calm down calm down and I kept saying that and that didn't really work because everything slowly wiped away to blank and I woke up. When I woke up I remember a tingling sensation like when your limbs fall asleep. I remember thinking, holy shit I could have just gone into SP almost, but I didn't. then I was going to write in my dream journal but fell right back asleep before I even moved.
oh well, tonight is another night.

Unlucky mate, well as you said there's always tonight! Great way of looking at it, always best to be optimistic when coming to lucid dreaming.

Now you need to work on stabalising your dreams, I suggest rubbing your hands or looking at them. As soon as you get lucid try to just sit back and relax and just clear your head. Plan what you're going to do ect.

      Good luck and keep dreaming!

Though you might have trouble looking at your hands (mine are always out of focus), so I'd say the tactile sensation of rubbing them should help better to root you in your dreams.

But looking at your hands is a good RC.

thanks for that feedback guys. i'm sure that frantically saying CALM DOWN CALM DOWN CALM DOWN wasn't the best route to go. hahaha, but hey what can I say it was the first time. I'll definitely remember to do the hand thing because before I was in the dream I told myself that i'd tell myself to calm down and I remembered to do that.. but not very effectively

I know what that feels like. I haven't had a lucid yet, and it is driving me crazy. My bf can LD like crazy. My only lucid experience so far was a couple nights ago. I was in a dreams, with a DC, and we started talking about dreaming. And i was like, if you can do this, you are dreaming. So we did it. And I was like, cool! I am dreaming! But, it didn't really get anywhere past that. I knew I was dreaming, but it didn't completely click. And it drives me crazy! I want to LD soooo bad!!

I've had an almost identical experience.
My friend was talking on a phone to another of our friends; asking about going bowling.
10 sec into the dream I realized that the friend i was with was on vacation so it must be a dream, unfortunately I panicked and woke up.

Don't worry, realising you are dreaming in the first place is the biggest hurdle which you have already proven you can get over. I tried to WILD for the first time ever this morning and I actually succeeded for a few seconds. It was amazing! I suddenly became aware that I was walking along a path and I knew I was just drifting into sleep and so I just went with the feeling and let myself float along instead of walking. It was such a wonderful feeling of freedom and letting go. But unfortunately I didn't maintain lucidity because I got distracted by a DC. So bummed.

yeah... i'm going to either try to rub my hands together, OR i'll just go along with the dream but instead of saying CALM DOWN CALM DOWN i'll say, this is a lucid dream this is a lucid dream. or something like that

okay so last night, I again realized I was dreaming. there was a lot of really random shit going on in my dream, but what made me realize that I was dreaming was I saw my dog that I grew up with. She just died about 2 and a half years ago, and right when I saw her i thought to myself, "susie can't be here.. she's dead. i must be dreaming." Then I tried to shoot electricity from my hands but couldn't.. it felt weird (because I had doubt, I wasnt fully lucid) like when you try to run away from something in a dream but can't run very fast at all. anyway, after that I remember rubbing my hands together to maintain clarity but got distracted because there was another dog trying to fight mine and I also was having a party at my dads house haha. one of these days it's going to happen though, I just know it!

and a low level one because I don't remember consciously rubbing my hands together while being lucid. But from dream recall I remember doing it. keeping a dream journal actually has helped my dream recall a lot, i pretty much remember them every night now

It's pretty hard not to get excited when you get a LD.
