The Importance Of A Dream Journal?

I have been around these forums and I keep seeing everyone say how important it is to keep a dream journal, something to do with dream recall?

Can somebody please explain to me why this helps so much in achieving lucidity?

      Thanks in advance !

      Sure!

A dream journal is possibly the most powerful tool you have to increase dream recall. Keeping one shows your mind that you care about dreams - that they're worth remembering. You need to be able to remember your regular dreams to remember your lucid dreams, and what's the point of having lucid dreams you can't remember?

Journals also teach you what your dreams are like, increasing your chances of becoming lucid while in one.

I've been keeping a journal for a week or so and its helped me remember dreams surprisingly well. Also it helps you to find dream signs which can help you become lucid if you recognize one while dreaming.
Recall two dreams in one night: [X]
Recall three dreams in one night: [X]
      Have a lucid dream: [X]

You notice recurring patterns easier if they are written down, that way you know where and in what situation to do reality checks to give you the best chances of becoming lucid.

I seem to be able to recall all my dreams fine withouth a journal but I'm gonna start doing it and see if there is any change.

Most of my life I rarely remembered my dreams. After starting a dream journal I immediately began remembering between 1 and 5 dreams per night. I've also learned to recognize common themes (dreamsigns) which greatly increases my chances at lucidity. Dream journals are an extremely useful tool.
