How many tries with a technique?

      Hello.

There are a lot of techniques to try, MILD, WILD, FILD, DEILD... and all have they own variations. Also you can do every technique with WBTB or without it.

I was doing some MILD in the night with a little of VILD, then some WILD in the morning... and I finally found myself lost, because I wasn't focus my effort in one technique. So I decided to practise ONLY MILD for the next seven days. I'll wake up three times during the night, I'll write down my dreams (just keywords for remember it later) and then do MILD.

My question is: How long do you try a technique until you realize it doesn't work for you? Is twenty-one tries (seven nights, three tries per night) enough?

I honestly don't see why they all wouldn't work. Some may just take more time than others!

Yes, you're right. Every technique should work. I think I expressed myself bad. I just wanted to mean how long do you test a technique until you can say: "Ok, I know perfectly how much success I can achieve with this technique. Now, let's try another: maybe it will work better for me."

yeah, you could do pretty much every technique with WBTB. I dont see any reason why you couldn't.

And yeah, I'd say if you can't get a technique to work for a couple weeks then switch to a different one. You can always come back to the technique if you want though.

I'd try a technique for at least a month. If you feel stressed at any time, just take a break. I've been trying to get in the habit of doing 20+ reality checks a day, and after 3 days I get burned out, so I just take a day off. The main thing you should focus on is confidence. Don't try to lucid dream. Just do it. (I am not affiliated with Nike) As Yoda once said. Do not try. Do or do not. There is no try. Good luck!

you know, reality checks are only useful when you 1) see something strange (or dreamy) 2) are doing WBTB

most the time just doing reality checks because you haven't done one in a long time wont do much for you. the whole "maybe if I do enough reality checks it will carry over to my subconcious and i will randomly do one in a dream" thing never works.

      just to let you know

yeah, I've been beginning to notice that. I just don't get that strange feeling enough times, so I've been starting to just do reality checks when I wake. I just get burned out after doing some many RC's in a day. Plus it causes the RC's to lose meaning.

RCs are more about truly questioning whether it's a dream or not. If you become aware or that then it definitely increases your chance for LDs. Just doing little checks here and there isn't what it's about.
      LDs since joining DV:
      DILD:56
      WILD:2
last LD: Wednesday, March 31, 2010

yeah, you could still easily have lucid dreams without doing reality checks throughout the day. Just do them when you wake up or are in WBTB... or even those rare occasions when you get that strange feeling, and that should be enough

This makes a lot of sense. I must admit I have just been doing them out of habit, or atleast trying to make it a habit. Now I will just cut them back to the odd happenings. However, its going to take some effort to be able to break the habit of thinking about RCs whenever I turn on the light to my hallway

I don't think you should stop doing that RC. Just be sure that FIRST you are going to do a RC whenever something odd happen. And THEN if you want add dreamsigns or little RC's here and there. I had my first lucid dream two days ago when I saw something odd in my dream and I did a RC. Yesterday I had another DILD in the same way. And today I had another LD, but this time with FILD .
