Thread: Cant control it...

Its the second time that i am dreaming and I become lucid. But when it happens, i wake up in that moment. What should I do?

just keep at it, these are referred to as lucid moments. for many people this happens a few times before they start having lengthier lucid dreams... i know it happened to me. all you can really do is persist, your brain is still getting used to this newfound conscious while dreaming thing and it just takes time and experience to adapt to it.

the only thing i'd suggest besides persistence is trying to stay calm when you realize your dreaming. you may be to excited because of the fact that you are, and wake up because of that. stay as calm as possible and try to stabilize your dream before doing anything else.

Theres a technique i heard about called dream spinningwhere if you realise you are dreaming you can actually consiously decide to start spinning like you may have done as a child? yes, so spinning actually increases your perception of your dream surroundings because you are focusing on what is happening at that time and what your senses think they are picking up. if that doesnt work, try falling backwards or willing yourself to do something stupid that is impossible to do in waking life - like jumping really high.

But my problem is that I cant do anything to stay in the dream. I wake up right after I know im dreaming. Is this normal?

Yes that's completely normal when you just start to have lucids. With more practice and some time you'll be able to stay aware longer.

I had three of theese "lucid moments" where i waked up instantly after realizing i was dreaming. The fourth time, i was able to stay in the dream for about 10 minutes, and the reason for that i think was that i had a very low level of lucidity, so perhaps it wasn't such a big surprise when i became lucid. I didn't think to use any of the known methods to increase my lucidity. Perhaps a good way to stay longer in lucid dreams as a newbie is to try to have low-level lucid dreams? Don't worry, you'll get past that first stage pretty fast if you keep at it.

Try rubbing your hands together or yelling prolong lucidity really loud.

Yes thanks, i know most of the methods. I just said that i didn't think to do any of those techniques at the time. I do remember now most of the time.

Man I feel for ya

Last night have my fourth or fifth LD realization that just slipped away from me right after wards. In the morning I can remember having that moment of "hey this is a dream" for reasons that shouldn't have even mattered compared to the more obvious evidence I'm not even considering such as being at a house I moved out of years ago. The reason last night was I couldn't catch the little arson kids who were burning my garage (the second time that night lol). Other times I have just realized I'm dreaming for no apparent reason at all (no reality check).

Anyway I had two excitement "i'm dreaming" wake ups on my first night of LDing, then nothing for 2+ months. And then I starting having shorty LDs that keep slipping away for some reason so.. That brings us up-to-date on the ironlung story. Keep up the practice and you'll probably surpass me.
