Hello! I've been trying to LD for a while, and finally succeeded!
I started using the FILD technique around 12:30 PM, and eventually began dreaming, but I wasn't lucid. There's my first problem!

I noticed that as I was moving my fingers, it became harder and harder to do so, and I also started to forget to. I didn't want to raise my awareness level by trying too hard to move my fingers, so I moved them as little as I could. Could moving my fingers too little (as in the muscles in my fingers were flexing slightly, but I don't think my fingers even physically moved) have prevented me from being lucid at the start of the dream? If not, I could have just forgotten to continue moving them.

Anyways, I dreamed I was sitting in the passenger seat of my car and my brother was driving very dangerously down a road, sometimes falling asleep at the wheel. On top of that, the road happened to be especially full of cars, turns, and hills! The whole time my dad was yelling at my brother to pay attention and drive better.
We reached our destination, a hotel of some kind, and I walked into our room alone, set down my stuff, and then realized I was dreaming.

Is it possible that the FILD technique worked, but had a delayed effect? Or is it more likely that the FILDing simply made me focus more on lucid dreams?

After I realized I was dreaming, my family came in and didn't seem to notice me, so I started flying. There was a large window in the room, so I flew through it, somehow bypassing the glass and coming into somebody's back yard, where the owner promptly started yelling at me to get out.

At this point I almost woke up. I wasn't properly awake, but I lost all imagery from the scene I was at. I succeeded in walking back into my dream, but was back in our room. I tried to kick the door out to get into the hall, but that didn't work out so I just opened it. I flew down the hall and around the corner where I saw two security guards sitting at desks. I flew over to show them my special powers, and they smiled at me, playing along. Then they handcuffed me for no apparent reason!

Now I began to wake up again. The movie-maker in me started to play out my escape, which involved stabbing one of the guards in the eye with the shards of her broken sunglasses (among other things). This didn't really work.

Instead of my dream-self kicking some security guard butt, I partially woke up and the scene continued to play itself out in my head, however I wasn't experiencing it. Sort of like a day dream.

I suspect I woke up both times because of the excitement of the situations. What should I do to remain calm when people oppose me in my dreams besides beating them up? Have you had similar problems?
