Thread: Hi

I've been lurking in these forums for a while now, and getting a lot from the site Thanks for putting together a site that provides helpful information without being too new-agey or speculative.

I'm a scientist who studies the mind (though not dreaming specifically) and I'm interested in exploring the mind's possibilities from within, as well as without. I've been meditating for years, and when I heard about LDs I wanted to try that as well. I have a lucid dreams in fits and starts, with as many as a few a week and then a dry spell as long as a month or two.

I've learned that as silly as it seems, regularly keeping a dream journal increases my chances of lucidity tremendously. I think its something about making dreaming part of our personal narrative. I hope that by participating in these forums I can get a similar effect, and learn more about dreaming in the process.

I like your style. I'm somewhat of a mind scientist myself. I'm studying chemistry and pharmacology and all that in college. I've never tried meditating but I've experimented with dreams and all sorts of drug induced states and probably the most interesting (but scary) was speed induced sleep deprivation to the point where I started dreaming but I was still awake. It was like a nightmare but instead of having to wake up to end it I had to go to sleep but I couldn't cuz I had drugs in me.

Its all interesting stuff. Theres alot to be learned from the shamans of different cultures around the world. They're the original mind scientists.

Heres another real interesting aspect of the mind. Try consciously altering your beliefs and convincing yourself of something and watch how your feelings shift. If you convince yourself something really good then you will become really happy and your body will start releasing endorphins and you'll feel like your on drugs. Thats what happens with me anyway. It goes to show that we can regulate our body chemistry with our thoughts alone.

Another interesting field I haven't got into yet but am reading about is hypnosis. Alot of amazing things can be done with the mind while in hypnotic trance.
