      New to the forums

      Hello, everyone.

I found this board via Google search; while I am not a frequent dreamer, I do have the occasional odd dream that I ponder the meaning of (one dream in particular I have in mind currently that I will probably post sometime in the near future). I think I have also done some things involuntarily, like lucid dreaming and projection (will describe the lucid dreams below), and these are things I would love to read and talk more about with people who I won't confuse.

Nice to meet everyone. This looks like a really neat place.

I hope it is not too soon to ask a question here, but after reading many of the topics by others who describe their experiences with lucid dreaming, I am beginning to wonder if what I felt was were lucid dreams or if I somehow managed to enter into an alternate state of consciousness. What I felt is...a little difficult to explain, but I'll try to make it not sound confusing. This has not happened often - maybe two or three times in the last year - but it's still happened. There are nights when I would dream and I would know I had dreams, but I could not for the life of me recall what they were about. Sometimes these dreams are even intense enough to wake me up, but I still won't remember them. On rare occasions, I would experience these dreams I could not identify, and I would still be conscious while the dream was occurring. I can easily recall all three of the occasion in question when I was laying on my bed, in dim light, looking up at my wall or at my ceiling and thinking to myself, "I'm dreaming right now". I can't say how I knew this, but I just did. I could feel that my state of consciousness was not at full alertness, but also not fully asleep. I didn't see anything, but I just knew I was still within a state of dreaming despite being somewhat awake.

while I cannot exactly connect completely with the experience you described, I can tell you that not being able to remember an intense dream is common for many ppl. What I suspect is happening: you are having a lucid dream but u are not able to recall it. That is why you know u r dreaming. You just can't identify it with a dream when u wake up because u can't remember. Just a thought. I don't think many ppl can identify what ur experience is.... But I hope this helps. Welcome to dreamviews.

There is a great dream interpretation section here that you might want to check out.

also, you do dream every night (multiple times actually,) you just need practice remembering them. Stay in bed after you wake up motionless and some fragments of dreams should come back to you after a minute or two.

      Dan J.C.,

See, that's the thing. This dream did not 'feel' intense. About half of the dreams I have I know are very very intense and I don't remember them in the morning beyond that I know I had a dream. The weirdness I talked about in my initial post is something different - I could not "see" a dream, but I was in a dreamlike state while remaining conscious enough to know I was, in fact, dreaming. Sounds confusing, I know - at this point, I am beginning to confuse myself. But thanks for the input - it did help.

I may look into the tips for lucid dreaming and see if I can alter this.
