New to this forum! First lucid dream.

Hello, I'm new to this forum, but I have been reading it for a few days now. It has helped out a lot , and now I have had my first lucid after just about a week of reading about it. The only problem was, it was ridiculously short and it was all fuzzy, and I couldn't see anything around me. When the dream started, I immediately realized it was a dream, and I tried to look down at my hands, but I hardly even had any control over myself. I looked down at them, and all the color was sort of fading out of them, then I tried to hold my nose and breathe, and it worked. Then, I tried that method where you spin around, but everything just went crazy and I woke up. It was weird, because the whole time I felt really close to waking up, and while in the dream I could feel myself lying in bed at the same time as I could feel my dream body, and I didn't feel very involved in the dream. My question is: Are there any good ways to make my LDs longer, and more realistic, and give myself more control?

Also, apart from that one dream, I haven't remembered any of my dreams for a long time.

to Dreamviews! Having your first lucid end shortly and it being fuzzy is common among dreamers. These things will improve with experience, but short term results can be achieved several different ways. As soon as you realize you are dreaming, stop what you're doing. Remain completely calm and maybe do a reality check. If the dream starts fading, rub your hands together and believe with all your mind that the dream will not fade. I can't stress this enough, belief is EVERYTHING.

Thanks for the help!!! Also, after the first ld, do they start to happen more often and are they easier to have as you have more?

In my experience, yes. When I first started lucid dreaming, I only would realize I'm dreaming by saying "I'm Dreaming!" as a cop out in a bad situation(someone's about to pound me into a pulp). Luckily I was always right! Now, I sometimes just get a "feeling" when I'm dreaming. It can't really be explained.
