      Hello all...intro and WILD advice

Hello all. Stumbled on this site a couple of days ago and I must congratulate the creators for their work...excellent job!

I was pretty into ld in college, especially after I read one of LaBerge's early books (actually I think it may have been his doctoral dis.). Had about a dozen or so DILDs over about 6 months, then interest waned, RC's waned, etc.

Now I want to get back into it and I am particularly fascinated with WILD. Never read about these back in the 80's. I have been trying to induce for 3 days now. When I was a child, I had severe "night terrors" as my parents called them. I realized some time ago that these were actually very lucid HI after non-lucid dreams, accompanied by some pretty heavy duty SP.

So, should be easy for me to WILD (or at least easier than average) given my familiarity with HI, SP, etc. On the first night I got very close, with clear SP onset a couple of times and some pretty detailed HI (mostly fixed images, but bright with a lot of detail). Also think I had a FA. But got stuck there.

Same story the last two days. Just got up from a nap attempt on day 3, again same events. SP comes really easy, within minutes. Lots of electricity, vibrations, whatever you want to call them. HI out the wazoo. But then stuck. I can feel my heart race with excitement, then SP stops just as I try to break out.

I think this may just be the excitement of actually getting close to WILD at such an early stage, so I'm trying not to get too worked up. I will keep trying until the thrill lessens and maybe then I can break through to ld.

I've read a lot of the WILD posts, but if anyone can give me some insight or advice, any would be welcome.

Glad to be here, and sorry for the long winded post.
I still believe in the research we're doing here...

      to DVs man!
I know what you mean, I have a lot of experience w/ SP too; Ive been having SP since I was 11 so Im fairly talented when it comes to WILDing.
It definitely sounds like you're getting too excited and waking yourself up. This happens a lot to me and a bunch of other WILDers. I think its the sudden awareness of what's going on is whats causing this excitement. But the trick is to not let your body know that you're still awake or conscious. When emotions like excitement occur, that signals to our body that we're not asleep/unconscious and hence, not ready for SP. So you have to do your best to try to kind of acknowledge what's going on but at the same time, ignore any significant changes. You have to try to be empathy-like when it comes to WILDing. Anothr thing is, you may not get it on the first attempt, a lot of times I will wake myself up, remain still and give it a few more shots (I usually get it on the 2nd or 3rd try). Here's a little technique of mine that I use to WILD; hopefully it will be of some use to you.

      1. Get at least 5 to 6 hours of sleep (WBTB). (optional)

      2. Devote at least 2 hours (or more) to WILDing.(optional)

      3. Remember your goal (where you want to go, what you want to do, etc).

      4. Dismiss any other thoughts and focus only on taking slow, deep breaths.

      5. Remain COMPLETELY still, no matter what.

      6. Try to steer clear of straying/abstract thoughts when entering SP (random/abstract thoughts means that the logical part of your brain is falling asleep, dont let it!). (they can also cause you to enter a non-Lucid Dream which would make all this work was for nothing!)

      7. Dont fight or resist SP in any way / stay relaxed and calm when it begins to happen.

      8. Continue to focus only on your (slow, deep) breathing as vibrations, Hypnagogic Imagery, and auditory hallucinations become more intense from SP.

(you can focus on and/or visualize your goal once you think you've got the breathing part down packed).

      9. Continue step 8 until you feel that sudden rush of spinning and/or falling through your bed or ceiling (in my case); this should mean that SP is complete, and hence you are ready to dream.

      10. If you are not already in a dream scene, then spin around or rub your hands together (or both) in order to conjure up one. Doing this can also stabilize a fading/blurry dream scene.

There you have it, those are pretty much all the steps I take when Im attempting a WILD. And if it doesnt work the first time, remember that it takes time so dont give up! I know it seems like a lot, but once you've been through it many times, you will become better and better at it.
