A Wake Induced Lucid Dream is basically remaining conscious until you go to and while you're asleep. This technique is usually used with other techniques such as a Wake-Back-To-Bed (WBTB) in order to maximize its effectiveness. When you do a WILD w/ a WBTB, you usually want to get about 5 hours of sleep (more or less) before attempting a the WILD. This helps b/c you will be going straight into the REM stage of sleep.
Now that you know what it is, you can follow my little guide to WILDing if you need help on your technique.

      1. Get at least 5 to 6 hours of sleep (WBTB). (optional)

      2. Devote at least 2 hours (or more) to WILDing.(optional)

      3. Remember your goal (where you want to go, what you want to do, etc).

      4. Dismiss any other thoughts and focus only on taking slow, deep breaths.

      5. Remain COMPLETELY still, no matter what.

      6. Try to steer clear of straying/abstract thoughts when entering SP (random/abstract thoughts means that the logical part of your brain is falling asleep, dont let it!). (they can also cause you to enter a non-Lucid Dream which would make all this work was for nothing!)

      7. Dont fight or resist SP in any way / stay relaxed and calm when it begins to happen.

      8. Continue to focus only on your (slow, deep) breathing as vibrations, Hypnagogic Imagery, and auditory hallucinations become more intense from SP.

(you can focus on and/or visualize your goal once you think you've got the breathing part down packed).

      9. Continue step 8 until you feel that sudden rush of spinning and/or falling through your bed or ceiling (in my case); this should mean that SP is complete, and hence you are ready to dream.

      10. If you are not already in a dream scene, then spin around or rub your hands together (or both) in order to conjure up one. Doing this can also stabilize a fading/blurry dream scene.

There you have it, those are pretty much all the steps I take when Im attempting a WILD. And if it doesnt work the first time, remember that it takes time so dont give up! I know it seems like a lot, but once you've been through it many times, you will become better and better at it.

      Wow, thanks..

      What is SP?

SP stands for Sleep Paralysis; its what our bodies do to us every night when we enter the REM stage of sleep. And the Hypnagogic Imagery and auditory hallucinations can be quite frightening. No one knows for sure why, but now that you know that all this will be coming from SP, it shouldnt scare you that much. Although it can freak me out from time to time, it used to really freak me out when it would happen to me when I was younger and didnt have a clue a to wtf was going on.

The auditory hallucinations can range from a bunch of loud, inaudible noises to full-fledged conversations. So you have to be aware that all of this is coming from SP when you're attempting a WILD b/c reacting to anything in any way lets your body know that you're not asleep and wont continue into SP until you're unconscious. But dont worry about not getting it on your 1st try (I didnt get it on my 1st try), SP can startle a lot of people out of SP; so my advice is (assuming you might not get it on your 1st try) to remain still if you are startled out of SP and to just continue breathing slowly pretending like nothing happened.

So when I start to hear noises, I just stay calm &I'll soon fall asleep in a lucid state?

Or when I fall asleep, do I have to tell myself that I'm dreaming, somehow?

Sorry, I'm new at this. ><

No problem, we were all new at one point.

Yeah the key is to remain calm at all times when trying to WILD. But of course if you fall asleep, then its always a good thing to be able to let yourself know that you're dreaming, but that's a-whole-nother ball park of LDing; a technique called DILD (Dream Induced Lucid Dream).

You have to practice WILDing in order to get used to SP, how SP feels, and how SP affects you. Like I said, I had an advantage going into WILDing b/c I went through SP many times since I was 11, so I was pretty accustomed to it and its affects. So if you keep practicing on remaining calm and completely still when WILDing, then you will be sure to get it at sometime or another. And feel free to ask as many questions as you need!

      Hi and welcome!

WILD = Wake Initiated/Induced Lucid Dream. So it's a technique or a type of a lucid dream.
LD = Just means Lucid Dream.

I only know of two types. Dream Initiated and Wake Initiated Lucid Dreams.
Then there are tons of techniques. Check the tutorial sections MILD, HIT, DEILD...

      Wow.
I just read about "False Awakening" in another topic..

I get these alot when I fall back asleep when I wake up in the middle of the night.
Sometimes I even get these when I just fall asleep..
It seems like the time has passed for so long but it's only been a few minutes.

But the scary thing is, everytime I have a false awakening there is usually something that scares the shit out of me.

I feel as if I have weights on my chest, &I can't breathe, nor can I move..
      It's scary..

This is one of the reason why I want to practice LD. ;|

      That would be the SP.

You say you get FA's a lot. Well, I think if you RC (Reality Check) when you wake up, you could get Lucid from it.

That's it. That's Sleep Paralysis right there. When you wake up, you cant move, you're hearing and seeing scary shit; that's definitely SP. Once you get used to that feeling, that's when you'll get the hang of WILDing. And you'll eventually get over the scary shit, b/c you'll know that none of its real and that none of it cant hurt you.

A False Awakening is something else. An FA is when you think you've awaken when you're actually still dreaming. This is similar but different from SP, b/c SP is when you've actually waken up paralyzed; its easy to confuse the two w/ each other.

Could you tell me if this is SP?

Well, I went to bed at like 1am last night, &I woke up at 5am or so.
I got on the computer for awhile, but at around 6 I started to feel really tired.

I layed down for about a minute or so and I started to see whales underwater swimming around.
I'm like wtf, so I wake up &my I got this paralyzed feeling in body for a second.
&My vision was spinning, it was only for like a second though.

Edit: I also got up on my feet and I stumbled for a second.
