Hello Monika, I am happy to be the first one to welcome you to our family. The false awakenings are not scary, and I am sure you have had them before. All that is, is when you dream that you wake up and not actually wake up. Welcome again. I am sure that any questions that you may have about LDing will be answered here.

Thanks, Manin. But the thing I find scary is that you could start your whole day and not know it was a dream? Would you know it was a dream if you didn't do the reality checks? How would you know you were awake when you actually were awake? Is it possible to have multiple false awakenings?

It is possible to have multiple false awakenings. I have lots of them and I also become lucid from them.

They can be a bit strange in the beginning but there is nothing to be afraid of. They are just dreams

While it is possible to keep on dreaming because you don't realize it is false awakening, you don't have to worry about spending whole day for it. Dreams don't last that long.

Good advice is to do reality check everytime you seem to wake up somewhere. It is a good habit you can realize it too without reality checks if your dream awareness is good. Reality checks are not the main way to reach lucidity, they are more like way to ensure and proof it to yourself after intitial doubt

False Awakenings are really just dreaming of waking up. Whether you continue your entire day in your dream just depends on whether you wake up or if you do a reality check when you wake up, so you get lucid.

Once, I have dreamt of going through an entire day (but, of course, it only lasted for several minutes in 'real time' but it seemed like an entire day) but you can use FA's to become lucid if you get into the habit of RC'ing (reality checking) whenever you wake up. I've never had a false awakening besides the one I've just descibed though.

So, what happens when you dream about having a lucid dream? Are you lucid?

Yes. And FAlse awakenings aren't scary, they're just dreams.

If you have a dream about being lucid, it depends on if you are really knowing you are dreaming, are you controlling it in your dream, I mean are YOU or is your dream body controlling it? I guess what I would have to tell you is, when you are lucid, you will not have to ask any one if you are lucid, for YOU and only you will be the only one who truly knows, and you WILL know. There will be know doubts if you are really lucid, when you really are. OK I am being redundant.

If I knew I was lucid in that dream about being lucid I'd be lucid? Wouldn't there be many doubts about which state I was in if that were the case?

Being lucid means that you realize you are dreaming in the dream. Dreams work strangely, so you could easily see the dream of being lucid, but you still remain unlucid. The sensation of understanding you are in a dream is easily distinguished from seeing only dream where you dream about being lucid or at least on my case.

But I have had that kind of dream only once I think.. and I have done this for years but hey, always do a RC when in doubt ^^

Having a false awakening doesn't mean that everything you dreamed before was actually a dream, within a dream.
It just changes the dream you're having to be in your bedroom and you waking up in it.
