      Was this lucid dreaming?

      Hey. I'm new here!
I was just wondering, is this lucid dreaming..

Yesterday I fell asleep on my sofa (), in my dream I was asleep in the position that I had actually fell asleep. Everything was the same. Anyway, in the dream my mum tried to wake me up but couldn't because I was dying in my sleep (in the dream). It all felt so real. Basically I knew this was a dream, and I was just so freaked out by the fact that I was dying that I woke myself up from my sleep.
I don't know if that is lucid dreaming, and I don't know how it happened. It probably isn't but I just thought I'd ask here

I'm not sure if you could call it a lucid dream. Lucidity, by its very definition means that you have control over what you're doing and knowledge. It is a term used in real life. An example you might find easier that I will take from the Simpsons. I will work off the assumption you know the characters, but it should be easy to follow either way. The Simpsons are walking through a park one day, when they see a vagrant woman they call crazy cat lady, because she usually has cats following her, mumbles incoherent things, and throws the cats at people. They witness her having a standard conversation.
Marge: " Did you get some kind of surgery or something? You can talk right now! "
Cat lady: " Yes, well I got medicated. Thanks to these pills, I enjoy brief moments of lucidity "
      *Marge peers closer*
Marge: " Those are Reeses Pieces! "
Cat lady starts shouting random stuff and throwing cats at them.
lol, sorry if I rambled a lot. I just thought that might make for an entertaining example to define the terms of lucidity.

If you knew you were dreaming while you were dreaming then it was a lucid dream.

Control comes later with practice. The general definition of a Lucid Dream is to be conscious, or aware, of the dream state. You can have 0% control and still be Lucid.
