      Hey I'm new :)

      Hey all,
      I'm new to the site.

I joined this site because I want to know more about dreaming, and how to control them. I had a bad nightmare and I hate getting them, so I found this site and decided maybe it could help me. I have always had outstanding and abnormal dreams. I usually always remember them. I know I have had lucid dreams before, but not very often have I completely controlled them myself. I love dreaming, but I have a hard time getting to sleep.
When I was little, my dreams were a lot stronger, I had this ritual to make myself wake up that I did in my dreams when I was having nightmares and it usually worked 90% of the time. I slept walked and talked, more than I do now, I could climb stairs, open doors, use appliances etc. I know this because my mom would watch me to make sure I didn't hurt myself. Almost every night this would happen... It started when I was about 7, and stopped being so strong when I was about 12. I occasionally sleep walk, but sleep talking is still comon for me. My mom says she has conversations with my sometimes when I am sleep talking.
Anyway I didn't really know what it was all about so that's why I am here. I want my dreams to be like they were before, I want to control them!

hey welcome to the site! i just joined to however I have been naturally able to have complete dream control since I was about 11. I know how you feel about trying to get out of nightmares though, being that's what got me started too .

there are a couple tips i can give you based on my experiences:
getting out of dreams or a straight up erase of a dream is something I called a "rip". Ripping was the feeling i got when i successfully woke myself up or totally wiped a dream. it kind of feels like a giant hand reaches down and grabs you and physically jolts you awake. be careful of false awakenings though! it might take a couple tries. the original mindset i used when i would trying to escape dreams was i would think "out, now!" with practice though, my simple "no" will wake me up.

as for controlling dreams this is something i accomplish nearly every night. the easiest way to do this is first recognize you are dreaming. after that it becomes practice and willpower. i think the first thing i was able to easily control is flight, so i'd recommend just trying to fly. if you're trying the right way you might only hover for a bit then fall, but that's the practice part.

well good luck and keep me updated!

Just wait! It's awesome! Then you can float around and hop if you want. That's good too.

What I do is run and jump, it took me a while to get it but I eventually got it! Don't go too fast though or you will destabilize the dream.

Edit: if you don't get off the ground the first jump keep jumping, and if that doesn't work yell gravity off!
if you can read this then you are about to be punched

      welcome nikkidee!

i usually wake myself up during nightmares by closing my eyes really tight and then opening them to force myself out.

Lucids are a really good way to help yourself through nightmares, so you're in the right place

I flew once in a lucid dream, it was interesting but definitely a different feeling to falling (I hate the feeling of falling! Most of the time at least...).

Good luck with the lucid dreams, if you need any help we're all happy to give any advice

Just keep at it and stay motivated to achieve them and I think you'll get there soon enough.

It's hard to lucid dream But I'm writing all my dreams down now, the ones I can remeber XD
Some are vivid and some are cloudy... I tried to do SP last night, and this morning. I couldn't do it. I just need to be patient and practice more I guess

      I can't wait until I fly

Hey Nikkidee, welcome to DV If you learn to lucid dream, you'll definitely be able to control some of your dreams and I think to confront these nightmares of yours.

To begin, start writing down all of your dreams so that you can build up your dream recall. There are two ways to approach lucid dreaming, one is a DILD. Especially for your nightmares, you can go over what you dream about and work out your dreamsigns- what you normally dream about. Then, you can do reality checks to question whether or not you are dreaming. Do these during the day whenever you see or think about your dreamsigns, and this reality checking should carry over into your dreams
Also, you can try the WILD technique, which is all about keeping yourself awake while your body starts to fall asleep, basically tricking dreams into starting while you are still aware.

Sleep walking actually occurs earlier in the night than your REM dreams do, I haven't met anyone who sleepwalks (although apparently my uncle did) so I can't really offer you much on that. It should theoretically not affect lucid dreaming whatsoever, of course who knows and who am I to say
