      False awakening/outer-body experience?

Hi, first of all i'm new to the site by about 3 or 4 weeks now and haven't had massive success in lucid dreaming; only on the night that i discovered this website and was able to lucid dream quite vividly! However last night i experienced something that had never happened to me before. I was lying in bed, quite tired, for about half an hour after i stopped watching tv. I was very comfortable and very tired and was just seemed to be enjoying the fact that i was about to doze off. I reached the point where i coudl barely distinguish between reality and the dream world, when i drifted off to sleep. At that exact moment, i rose up (in my dream) from my bed, only to look down on myself sleeping. Everything was exactly the same in my bedroom. Nothing was different from when i had left it. This all became a little scary to me and things began to seem quite blurry. I shouted for my Dad (still dreaming), for about 10-20 seconds, who then entered my room. I asked him repeatedly to wake me up but he just stood there beside me in my peripheral vision. After consistently shouting, but also knowing i was dreaming, i tried to calm myself down. i began to sink back into my sleeping self, lying on the bed. Once i had fully laid down i woke up completely.

I found this quite scary as it has never happened to me before, but the main thing that scared me is the fact thta i couldn't get out of it.

I was wondereing if anyone could give me some insight on what really happend? Also, any tips on trying to induce this experience once more so thta i can confront it head on and initiate a lucid dream from it (without being scared!)

      Thanks very much

Yup, that definitely sounds like an out of body experience. It is scary, but its harmless and you can use them to your benefit if you ever feeling like exploring that kind of stuff or astral projection

I agree with LAUR, don't be afraid of strange dreamworld instances.

Threads like these should be put in Beyond Dreaming, for future reference. I think you'll get a larger response and better advice if you post topics like these where people who are most experienced with situations like this(out-of-body experiences/travel, etc.) generally look .

This isn't a thread about astral projection, just about WILDing such that you have an OBE.

First of all, congrats on the WILD This was a lucid dream, you knew that you were dreaming. Just keep trying the WILD techniques and try to imagine floating up out of your body, think of it almost like a ghost, that you can just float easily into a second dream body, leaving the 'sleeping' dream body in your bed. (The Twin Bodies Technique)

Since you were already in the dream, you just needed to do some reality checks to help yourself stay calm and clear headed. Try to anticipate ahead of time what it was like, imagine the last one and what you could have changed so that when it happens again and you're in your dream you can do what you please instead of being afraid

Any and all threads on out-of-body experiences go in the Beyond Dreaming section of the site, and as indicated by the title, this thread is about an out-of-body experience. I didn't think it was about astral projection. I see what you mean though.

It seems I misunderstood your post Fran, sorry. I didn't realize you considered this a WILD. My bad

An out of body experience isn't necessarily something mystical and fantastic and paranormal, it's simply the perception that your consciousness is outside of your body. This happens pretty frequently in dreams and in waking life, too. If the implication is that the OBE was obtained by paranormal means (ie you think you're floating around as a little spirit ball in another dimension) then it belongs in BD. If it's just about having a 3rd person dream or a dream of seeing your own body, this is its rightful place.

      No luck so far

Well it's been about a week or more since i had the "outer-body experience" now and i've not been lucid much or had much success in dream recall terms. But obviously i'm still going to do as much as i can to induce lucidity and have that strange experience once more.
Thanks for everyone who replied and read the thread. I'm going to try to recreate my feelings around the night that i had this experience. I was phisically tired but not mentally.. Also i'd had alot of sugar that night and went to bed earlier than normal and was laying there in silence for quite a while lol so I'll try do the same again. Also i'll try all the little techniques you all mentioned to increase the chances of repeating this.
The only lucid dreams i have had recently have not been lucid. However i have been trying to keep a dream journal, and have found a lot of common features between them but don;t know what they mean. Most of my dreams contain a lot of old school friends (I'm only 19) from about 10 years ago though. And it seems in the dreams they are still my best friends. Also i don't have a phobia of travelling but my dreams always include modes of transport malfunctioning! Planes plummeting down to the ground, busses crashing off bridges and going into the river. When i drive in my dreams, the brakes never work properly either... I read information on the main page about finding patterns in your dreaming and therefore concluding that when these things happen that you are dreaming. But i find it so hard to know i'm dreaming, when i actually am! Also bits and pieces are always missing from my dreams and they lack clarity. If i'm dreaming and i'm with an old school friend sitting on a bus that's about to crash, i still can't manage to tell myself that this a dream because these things only happen when i'm dreaming! Doing reality checks is an annoyance and i do lack discipline on that front. However, i was wondering if anyone has any tother tips that can help me so that next time i have one of my "regular" dreams, i can knock some sense into myself and say: "HEY YOUR DREAMING!!"
Thanks for all replies before, also please tell me if i'm posting in the wrong section lol however i am new and thought it appropriate to stay posting here!
      Thanks

      Sounds like a good plan!
Click on the grinning teeth in my signature, it'll take you to the Reality Check tutorial. Reality checks, though they seem like a lot of effort when you are starting out, are INCREDIBLY effective and helpful, and are even really fun. Like you've noticed, keep paying attention to your dreamsigns and see if there are any others that you have. Obviously some (like failing breaks) are going to fill you with a lot of worry and anxiety so they may be harder to reality check to. Try to work on the memory RC especially for dreamsigns like that where in a dream you likely aren't going to stop and count your fingers.
