I don't really get if this is a troll post or not I mean it's kinda obvious. What's the fun in lucid dreaming if you can't remember them in the first place?

At any rate, welcome to DV!

Also helps you find dream signs, if you don't know of common themes, then you won't do a reality check then.

You use the memory of your last dream to MILD and to DEILD (via VILD).
You use the memories of your past dreams to find out what your dreamsigns are.
You use the memories of your past dreams to become familiar with the wackiness of your dreams so that you can learn to be more aware and carry that awareness into your dreams.

Having an amazing lucid dream is worthless if you wake up and only vaguely remember performing a reality check. You want to work on that dream recall so that you have the memory, the details, the words spoken, all of that to take back with you.

Try keeping a DJ for a few weeks. Highlight your favorite dreams. Stop for a year. After 365 days, read the ones you'd highlighted. Some you won't even remember. Others, the amount of detail will dazzle you. When you read a dream journal, the memories come flashing back to you, vivid as if they'd just happened. If not, they might slowly fade or they may not last waking up.

It's not strictly necessary. But it improves the quality and the ease of induction for the majority of people. And it ensures that you're able to access those memories with a cue, even years later when you've 'forgotten' them.

I have never had a lucid dream so I don't konw, But, When you become lucid how does time pass, for example has anyone had a LD for the full rem cycle?

I'm having some trouble with this. I mean, if I had the first lucid dream of my life, wouldn't I just naturally remember it? You mean I could have been completely aware, estactic that I was dreaming and done all this amazing stuff, and then forgotten that I'd lucid dreamed?

I have a hard time understanding that.

Although, I do vaguely remember doing a reality check and trying to become lucid.

Well you can think of it this way...

People who suffer from Amneshia (how ever you spell it) have troubled memory. Some can't remember who they are, where they are, have short-term memory loss, etc. How about alzheimers?

Others have a hard time believeing how they could forget certain things. I had the same thoughts as you until I remembered that everyone has Dream Amneshia such and such.

How do you forget who you are? Some really do forget but thats on a more extrememe example.

You might forget if you lose lucidity. If you are lucid, then your dream goes non-lucid for the rest of your REM period, you might not remember the whole thing as clearly.

(You can dream in NREM too. You don't only dream in REM.)

I had a LD last week which I almost didn't remember... I woke up... hmmm.. couldn't recall any dreams. I went to the bathroom and I suddenly got a glimpse of a reality-check during my dreams - and WHAM!!! I remembered most of my lucid dream with great detail. If I wasn't used to recalling dreams I would never had got a glimpse of what opened up the "gates" to the rest of the dream.

Well, if you can't remember your dreams, what is the point of having a lucid dream. Shift and ninja's points were also very valid, and for me, when recall is good, vividness is much better. I tend only to acheive a DILD in vivid dreams, so it helps very much for my LD count.
Haven't had a lucid dream in 3 years, and I'm looking to get back into it.

Why would you want to lucid dream if you can't remember it? Also to interpret them.

Eh, in my opinion, interpretation is useless. I have dreams about donkey kong and magic ghosts... there isnt any book that can interpret that.
