Newbie Knowledge: Things you should know

Hello, I am not new to dreamviews, but I want to share my knowledge with the people who are.

      1. If you realized you are dreaming, while you are dreaming, then you had a lucid dream. This is the textbook definition. It matters not how long you were lucid. Hell, you could only have had a millisecond of lucidity, but you were still lucid.

      2. Quoted from Henry Ford: "Believe you can, believe you can't. Either way, you're right." Dreams control is based largely on expectations. You may WANT to fly, but if you don't EXPECT to, then it is not likely to happen until you remove these doubts.

      3. Lucid dreaming depends on a few very key things: Sleep, motivation, persistance, patience, and time. Don't give up on having the best experience of your life, just because it takes a little time to happen!

      4. A dream journal is mandatory (almost). Writing out your dreams first thing in the morning helps incredibly with the frequency of lucid dreaming. Besides, what is the point of learning to have lucid dreams if you can't even remember them?

      5. Lucid dreams get better with practice. Most first lucid dreams are a bit blurry and short. But trust me, with experience, lucid dreams will become long, vivid, wonderful experiences.

Finally to help with motivation, I will add this.

Eventually, with dedication and practice, you can learn to have lucid dreams AT WILL. It took Stephen LaBerge 2 years, but he had to invent his own methods. You have the benefit of using techniques tested by him and other dreamers on this site. It takes time and practice, but if you reach that point, it will be well worth it!

I hope that this will help you on your quest for lucidity. Farewell!

How many learned lucid dreamers actually manage to LD at will every single night? I don't agree with what you said about that. I think it's much more difficult than you're making out.

2-5 are mainly all assumptions, not based on actual truth or research. So newbies and old members alike, be aware of what you read and hear about lucid dreaming, especially on this site, and what someone makes out to be the truth when really it is just something that they are purporting to be true, though it has never been shown to be the case.

Sorry about that. I said that out of my own experience and knowledge, but yours is considerably greater than mine. I'll try to change it.

      ....how is that?

Haven't had a lucid dream in 3 years, and I'm looking to get back into it.
