Thread: Hello there and some questions

What fascinates me the most, is that you can dream more "realistic" then reality itself.

I'm not sure about that, it sounds like a paradox. How can something be more realistic than reality?
Dreams can be surprisingly close to reality, exactly like reality, I'm not sure how it could be more realistic.

So my question is, can you control how realistic a dream becomes and even go in the "super realistic" arrea by your self?

I think that increasing concentration and self-motivation helps. What do you mean by, "super realistic area"?

And in regards to your last question, I haven't had a lucid dream myself, but I would assume that food does have taste. Check out the current Task of the Month, it's food related, and people post their dreams and descriptions very well on the subject.

There is a thread around this site somewhere about hyper-reality, which is what you are talking about. It is possible to make things more vivid and detailed in a lucid dream, indeed this is the first thing many people do when they become lucid. To achieve this you basically have to stop whatever you are doing and really pay attention to the scene surrounding you. Notice all the colours and textures around you, smell the air and listen to the sounds around you. Many people find it is useful to look at your hands and notice all the detail on them, your fingerprints and nails etc. As you do this you will notice that everything will become more vivid and detailed - often until it does seem "more real than reality". This also has the effect of stabilising the dream so that you can stay lucid longer in addition to increasing the vividness.

And yes you can definitely experience tastes and smells in dreams. Pain i find is usually experienced as a dull aching sensation rather than searing pain.

Yes, you can definitely experience taste and pain in your dreams. Smell, too, probably -- I just don't remember smelling things in my own dreams. But I've definitely had great feasts (usually candy-related, doh!) in my dreams and I can remember having a falling dream once where I DIDN'T wake up before landing and smashing against the ground REALLY hurt.

Probably that hitting your face in the ground hurts as hell. Just so you wouldn't attempt something like that
