      DREAM/nightmare/paralized

hi, i am new around here and my question probably does not have anything to do with LDs but its been bothering me alot.

Theres been couple of times that ive been experiencing some sort of Dream or Nightmare someone told me is me being paralyzed in my dream. When i fall asleep i wake up and i see my room, im still in my bed facing up, my body cant move but im able to see my room dark and its some kind of scary dream, i want to move but i cant and i say to myself "move!" but its always hopeless, and sometimes i feel some sort of presence. what the heck is this? is there a meaning to this or a sort of explination?

Hey xXbernisXx, welcome to the forum! About your experience, im pretty sure it is what is commonly referred to as Sleep Paralysis (Or for short SP). The body goes through this every night, to prevent itself from acting out the dreams. Else you would dream of soccer and start kicking the blankets off. So thats why your body gets paralysed. Normally this happens when you are not conscious, but at times you can be fully aware of it happening. Often this paralysis is also accompanied by a sense of a dark presence close by, the so called "old hag syndrome". The only thing you can do in such cases is remind yourself that there is actually nothing bad going on and there is no danger at all, because it is a normal thing that can happen. No one has ever been abducted by the old hag, either . Maybe you could even use this SP sensation to start a lucid dream, it might be a good jumping point for the WILD technique (you can read more on that in other parts of this forum, just seek). Once you can use it to LD, I'm sure you will no longer fear SP but welcome it (as many people here do!). Hope that helped a bit and good luck!

WOW thanks alot!! that was really helpfull. im glad i found an interesting and helpful site as well as the forums. I actually thought this was some sort of LD, but i guess i might be able to start one now. I usually get this SP when i go to sleep facing up.

I been trying to LD but i always forget to remind my self im sleeping inside my dreams. i just started this LD process along with my journal 4days ago. and so far it seems kind of hard. :S but like u said probably my SP will help ill give it a try even thou is an uncomfortable feeling.

You are not that much wrong, being in SP you can easily already be in a (lucid)dream, it really depends. This happens on the edge of wake/sleep, hence it is a good point to start for a WILD. If you feel stuck during this process (paralysed), you could try to go for a spinning technique, it has helped me a lot to start WILDs (its the only way I can do it).

Also, dont get discouraged. You are only at it for 4 nights. That's reaaaaly a short period. I usually say that if you give it your best for over a month and *nothing* at all happened, you have a right to become a bit frustrated! And about that uncomfortable feeling, you should try next time when it happens to remind what was discussed here and realise that millions of people experience this and noone was hurt or had any lasting bad effects of SP and/or old hag. Maybe this will calm you down and make the experience slowly less uncomfortable (I never experience old hag anymore since I banished her from my mind ).

By the way when you're in SP you are really awake.

You might think you were dreaming later, but you are definitely awake.

      that's a banana.

      Do a reality check now.

HA didn't work did it now? That's what I thought.

      How are you?

I"m new here too! And even though this is my first post, I have actually heard of this before. I believe it means that you are in a state when you are about to leave your body for astral travel, but you can't move. You have to push your self to heighten your vibration level or something, and if you concentrate hard enough, you should be able to start moving.

The whole sleep paralysis thing with the old hag makes sense of some stuff for me now. About 8 months ago i had a terrifying Halucination in the middle of the night, a decomposing corpse was standing over me smiling, nothing more than that, I got out of my bed and ran downstairs, and spoke to my dad about it. The corpse followed me to the top of the stairs, but then I just ran. After a short panic attack, he reaasoned with me about it - obviously it was a hallucination, but i was perfectly awake, i beleive it was some sort of DEILD Thing as it was an entity from the dream I had just finished. But it had somehow crept over from the dream hallucinations to RL hallucinations. Scared me shitless.

Sleep paralysis, happens every time you fall asleep and is nothing to be afraid of. You usually fall out of it just before waking up, but sometimes it takes a while. While trying to WILD once I fell into sleep paralysis and couldn't get out of it so I had to put myself to sleep.
