      New guy's dreams.

I have been lucid dreaming for 5 years that I know of. First one that I can recall was being in a majestic, castle-like building. I suddenly realized I was dreaming and decided, "Wow, I'm aware that I'm dreaming. Time to explore!" Everything then became very detailed visually, and I walked around a bit in this new reality. It didn't last long, and when I woke I thought that it was the coolest thing ever. I've been lucky enough to have more of these dreams, but only remain aware for 15 seconds tops. I know I don't have much time when in this state so I start looking around, walking, touching things, etc. The more I push it, the more unrealistic the dream becomes and it fades. I also notice that the lucidity occurs when I'm in a pickle and need to think rationally. Does any of this sound familiar? Thanks!

Well esodeez, Welcome to Dream Views! I'm sorry that your lucids only last for a little while. This is a problem that many people have, as when we get excited, it either makes us lose lucidity, or we wake up. However, hope is not lost! You can visit the tutorials section of the site, and there we have all sorts of information that can help you in making your lucid dreams better and longer. I would specifically suggest the dream stablization tutorial, and any other tutorials that catch your eye. It's good that you already have some experience; this makes the rest of the process so much easier for you.

Now, what induction method do you use, or do you simply have lucids sometimes (e.g. you're in a dream and you suddenly realize you're dreaming)? Do you keep a dream journal?

Feel free to ask anyone your questions. We have so many experienced people here on the forums and any of us would be more than willling to help you out. The community is always friendly (unless you play the DV Elimination game... ) and willing to answer questions/concerns. Again, Welcome!
      ...And then to dream...

      Hello, esodeez.

I'm glad you decided to learn what this thing that you are experiencing is.

As far as some of your problems, I have had the exact same problems before. Kordan is right. The dream stabalization tutorial should be a great read for getting a more vivid dream. Pretty much, inspire more senses- touch things, taste things, look at things- that kind of stuff.

You can focus on an object to make it more vivid but often this can just screw up the rest of the environment. More than that I would suggest trying to define the more abstract senses. How do your clothes feel on your body? Do you feel the weight of your legs? Can you feel the air coming in your nose? If you can get these sense up and working- there is a good chance your sight will naturally improve itself just because your dream environment is becoming more detailed as a whole.

      Concerning this little number,
I know I don't have much time when in this state so I start looking around, walking, touching things, etc.
Lots of people feel like this. Most people have found that the reason this is true is because people think it is true. In fact, there is no reason that your lucid dreams should be any shorter than the rest of your dreams unless you screw up your confidence into thinking that your LD will be short. (Or, in the opinion of some people, get too excited.) Explore your dream environment under the assumptiont hat you will have a long dream.

Otherwise, your anxiety and rushing of the dream will make you not only enjoy it less but may be causing the lack of vividness that you are frustrated with.

Finally, if you wake up from an LD, there is a more than good chance that you woke up into another dream. So whenever you wake up from an LD, always RC. As far as thinking lucidly when your dream avatar needs rational thought most, then build on this. Play to your strengths. Stick around and I hope you get good advice and like the community around here.
