It seems to me you're in a state of sleeping consciousness. I tend to go into this state a lot in crowded situations, such as sleeping on a bus. Your body falls asleep, but your sensory perception stays open, and you can think. In my case, I could even hear what people were saying.
I haven't found a way to solve this yet, however, here are a couple of things you could try:
1) Calm down. You seem to be getting over-excited, and that won't do anything to help you sleep.
2) Try not to think too hard about it. It seems your mind is still over-aware.
