Question Any tips on remembering dreams?

I already keep a dream journal, but when I wake up, I only get glimpses of the dreams, then they flit away. After that, no matter how hard I try, I can't remember them. Any tips? Do those audio 'Subliminal Messages' work?

Keep remembering a image or a speech that you remember of that dream - anything you can remember -, about 4 times, with eyes closed, then write at your DJ. There's two entries about dry spell at my DJ:

      vague dream 24.11

"I couldn't remember anything. But by just laying still I could remember I dreamed about a karate guy with a yellow belt."

      25/11

"Can't remember any dream. Maybe it's because I slept too much, about 10 hours and a half. I'm going to do some memory's exercise during the day to get it better."

The next day, I got about 17 lines from one dream (at the DJ program) while all the dreams I wrote before that have a max of 5 lines.

What I did different than the days before was listening really's ultimate lucid mp3 far before sleeping, and the memory exercises were about memorizing a post here in DV, and writing it exactly as possible at the Office Word many times (I think these memory exercises did the strongest impact on my recall).

About the music I think they are like RCs: cause random effects. It doesn't hurt trying though...

Make an alarm ring tone. So when you wake up if you dont remember to write them down make the ringtone to say like "REMEMBER YOUR DREAMS"

You just have to keep writing down every detail that you can remember. In time it will get better.

I hear that positive thinking before going to sleep "I will remember my dreams..." etc helps really well. Last 2 days I've been feeling a little grim with the cold etc., and noticed an ill effect on dream recall. So just keep at it.

When I don't remember a dream straight away, I lie there and search for a small fragment of the last one I had. If I don't pick one up I scroll really fast through random thoughts, recent memories, random items which will usually set off an instant wave of dream recall.

After remembering a small part at least I work gradually backwards which works really well, and this can lead me back as far as 2-3 previous dreams sometimes.

Thank you all! This is really helpful. I'm gonna attempt a WILD tonight, so these will come in handy

      Train yourself to do this:
Wake up. Don't move a muscle, and try to think of a fleeting image of your dreams. Once you have something, try to work backwards from it. Thats what worked for me this morning.
And now.. for a Stephen Strutmeyer Film...

Stay in the position you woke up in for several minutes going over all the details you can remember. Every detail that you can remember generally leads to even more details, kind of like the story unfolds. Definitely not moving though, then when its all clear right it down and review what you wrote a bit.

YAY! Thanks all. I remembered three long ones from last night. Although it took me about a 1/2. And I moved around like crazy, but it still worked! Whoo! It's been about 5 nights, and I've remembered about 6 dreams, 7 if you count stupid meaningless ones. Now I just have to work on becoming lucid. Reality Checks, maybe?

I would recomend reality checking yes. But every hour going through this thought process:
      1. Am I dreaming right now?
      2. What would things look like if I were dreaming?
      3. Visualize yourself doing something pleasureable in a lucid dream.

I would definitely recommend reality checks. In my opinion they are the easiest way for a beginner to experience a lucid dream. The only downside is that it may take a while to establish the habit but keep at it

There are other induction methods out there though, so search the forums if you don't like reality checks.
