      Hi

hi, I have been flying in my dreams for years and today decided to see if anyone else did, so I typed "dream control" into google and lo and behold theres actually a name for it. What a relief. I have visited the moon, flown in the atmosphere around the World and recently been learning to fly at speed from a great height, dive down and pass under a bridge. I finally managed to achieve this by turning upside down when going under the bridge to view the underside of the bridge when passing underneath etc - my greatest lucid dream achievement. Look forward to reading these forums

Yes, flying is the best, even though I only sort of 'Float'.

Welcome to dreamviews, have fun with some of the new dream control ideas. (I do love giving myself wings)

Hey there jinxsy! Flying is one of the things on my list to do when I finally have a long enough LD, but for now induction is my main goal. There's lots of stuff here at DV and if you're looking for something else to do in LDs, check out the LD Experiences Checklist. Thanks for joining

      WELCOME JINXSI!!!!

Flying is my favorite thing to do in an LD, and though I have had many many flying LD's I do think you are more experienced than I am. I once was darting towards outer space as well, but then a weather balloon distracted me and I kind of lost my lucidity (I held on to it, dragged it to the ocean then I became a woman reporter and then this tsumami came and some other really weird stuff happend (it was a long time ago, and no I don't think it was a premonition of any sort ). Anyway, I'm sure you will find a lot of other interesting things to do in your LDs here, some regarding flying, other about other equally entertaining activities.

      Make yourself at home...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

Thanks all for the welcome. I wonder if any of you can appreciate how gobsmacked I am at finding fellow night flyers. On discovering LD yesterday and realising that I have an LD about once a week I decided to try force an LD last night - it didn't work, alas, however I will read the forums and see if I can become more experienced.

Re: flying, I have found that going up is simple, (even from indoors) going along horizontally is complicated but easily achievable, however going down is difficult. I often wake up on attempted landings. Gravity seems to kick in when its time to go down. It was this problem that made me think about swooping under bridges because one can swoop from a great height and then just land, when one is near the ground. .. and as an aside learn to descend in a controlled manner.

I have read a few messages now and turning/spinning may be the answer to landing, when up in the air I can just turn and...land. Does turning/spinning involve just a casual turn around or does one have to do a few turns etc?

      Hi there, welcome to...here!

Your a natural LDer. i hate you guys we have to work for it and you have it easy!

nah, just kidding. i am very bad at flying in my LDs, but i have achieved it once or twice, next time im gonna try skydiving from a tower.

With dream spinning, you have to spin as if you are trying to make yourself dizzy, the feeling of dizzyness and moving is what changes the dreamscape.

Ha, right I must try that - spinning must be really cool. I started flying as an escape from a death situation so jumping off a high tower may well result in having to fly etc - just look up and go there.

This is probably not the right place to discuss this but I have found that an increase in flying ability has resulted ina real life fear of heights.....but only in certain situations. I am happy going on cablecars, chair lifts, white knuckle rides etc but if I am exposed to a situation where one false movement could result in death, I am terrified. I once went to a natural viewing point in the Azores where one walks through caves and they open out to a viewing point half way up a cliff which is about a few metres square which a low retaining wall - if someone fell they could easily fall over the wall and hence down the cliff etc. I fell to the floor and crawled back. I wonder if this fear is based on the fact that when I am dreaming I have to make a decision that I am dreaming and hence I can fly, when I am awake, perhaps I have the slightest doubt that I may believe that I am asleep in an LD and can fly.....d'you get it?

      Welcome Jinxsi

Quite strange that dream flying has given you a fear of heights - generally I find that doing scary things in my dreams alleviates the fear in real life. 'Confronting your fears' and all that jazz...

I really have no idea how this could be caused for you. Have you tried putting yourself in the same situation in a dream, being on the edge of a cliff? Perhaps you associate it differently to flying?

I'm so jealous that you can fly so well. Really. I wonder what it is that makes everyone want to fly so much in their dreams, but it seems to be the most popular thing to do. It's the first thing I thought of doing in my first LD a few nights ago, and it worked, barely. Next time I want to fly though, I should just give it up and try to bang Edward Norton or Angelina Jolie or something. But I'm sure my boyfriend would just wake me up and I would spend the whole day being mad at him.....sorry for the stupid post I'm really tired and bored.

Placebo, that doesn't work for me since in a dream I can be on the edge a cliff and just fly off etc - it doesn't matter if I am on the edge of a cliff in a dream. I wonder if the fear is based upon the nagging doubt that I might be in a LD whilst awake and might just take a step over the edge - as if in an LD etc.

That sounds plausible. The only thing I can think of for that, is to find more reality checks that work for you, and find a way to draw/prove the line between dreams and reality more convincingly.

      Anyone else have other suggestions?

Laracroft, I went through a phase where temptations from the fairer sex were ruining my LD's. Now when a female tries to ruin my LD its like a sign that I am in an LD and off I go...flying. Next week I am going to practice "swooping". I dont get any LD's over the weekend because I generally have a drink on Friday and Saturday and thats LD's out for me.

My scariest dream: just in case anyone is interested. There was a castle inhabited by monsters, something out of Doom... type beasts. I was circling the castle (flying) in the knowledge that they couldn't get me. because they couldn't fly. I was circling for a while and then I met eyes with one of the doom beasts. He smiled at me and I smiled back.........

...and then he slowly rose into the air. <GULP> The smile went off my face pretty quick I can tell you. He chased me for ages and we ended up in space. Eventually, (and this wont happen again) I gave up curled into a ball and got killed and woke up etc.

Cheer up, If your tired and bored go for a nap and try some flying. Once your in LD look up and bring whatever you can see closer, lo and behold you may then be high up in the air.
