Thread: Greetings and questions

Ki Ora from New Zealand and just welcoming myself to the forum.

So... A good old greeting. It's nice to be able to find a forum which can help pursue my interests and possibly help me with achieving my current goal and im looking forward to being active on this forum.

Now my question along with some background information. Currently I have been working on trying to enter a lucid dream from a wake initiated state however it is proving quite difficult. The main reason I know is that I have a slight insomniac tendancy, not actual insomnia, which I cannot sleep without actually having to be absolutely "Trashed" in other words I can only fully set myself to sleep when I am tired which leaves little time as I sleep late and wake early. This causes a few problems in terms of trying to coax a lucid dream out of myself as I barely get 6 hours of sleep and it is a fickle thing if I sleep too long I cant fall back asleep and if too little I end up ruining the second part.

Of course I have been working around this and for the past few months I have had one gigantic stumbling block which is the main part of my question.

When I do fall to sleep I keep myself well informed and thinking of the wake initiated state and have my phone on a good silent vibrate time however after doing this and proceeding to try sleep again it ends in two things, either its a failed attempt or it ends up with me, I think, entering the state of awareness in sleep.

However instead of the usual sleep paralysis from what I hear, it ends up feeling as though every muscle in my body is ripping themselves and the main area it happens is the jaw muscles. No jitters or anything else, just an extremely disturbing feeling which im not sure if its meant to be like that. Of course I have endured through it and I am working on ignoring it but I want to know is this what normally happens while trying out Wake initiated states?

Also another small thing is when in this state what am I to expect. There are two things that happen when I do enter that state. Either I wake up or I sleep. Do I have to moniter my awareness and keep from that sleep and when I do that am I thinking too much because I wake up after it.

It's a lot trickier then I think getting to the above paragraph and staying in the middle of either sleep or wakefulness then getting to a point where the body falls asleep. So here lie my questions.

Is the sleep paralysis always that disturbing for some people
and
While in the paralysis state how much do I focus on and where do I go from there. Is it trying to keep as low as possible thought patterns and staying closer to sleepfulness or any other hints on it.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about WILDs because I'm generally unsuccessful at it, but there are forums here dedicated to the practice, and also the official DV tutorial for WILDs, here.

Thank you for the welcome and the links. I saw the first two before and they help but the 5 phases clears up some other uncertainties I had as it is more specific. I did not realise there was an attaining lucidity sub forum so I will have a good look over it all and will try out again tonight.

Edit: Seems like sleeping for 5-6 hours might work to my advantage also. I realise that I have larger more vivid thoughts when I doze in the mornings so after the room mate hop out I might just put that to good use.
