Thumbs up Greetings from a new member, and my first attempt

I discovered dreamviews yesterday while browsing the internet, and after reading a few articles on this site I became very interested in attaining lucidity in my dreams, so I read a few of the tutorials and decided that at night I would give it a go.

First, I tried a few relaxation exercises to get in a calm state. After feeling as if i were relaxed and in a comfortable position, I attempted the visualization WILD method, utilising as many senses as often as i could. I tried this for quite some time, several times, however I always felt myself gradual losing focus due the discomfort of being still in the same position for a while, although i did experience sensations of heavyness and degrees of numbness and tingling feelings in my limbs. However I also kept getting distracted by the noises of my brother coughing and snoring in the bed next to mine

In order to increase to vividness of my visualizations i began imagining the presence of various friends and in familiar settings. I found that this was quite helpful in making the immersion more effective. However, I became a bit frustrated by the fact that I wasn't falling asleep as quick as I would have like. When I eventually felt like I had been drifting in and out of being half asleep I started alternating to the 'ParadigmShift WILD method' of mentally dragging myself across the bed, and this made me feel interesting sensations - but at this stage my memory gets a bit vague because I think I genuinely fell asleep a few times and entered dreaming states.

However, I don't think I ever attained proper lucidity throughout the night. I remember waking up several times in the night between more lengthy breaks of being asleep. When I finally awoke in the morning, at first I felt like I had completely failed to even have any dreams, but then after a moment of reflection, I suddenly remembered a dream I had, and then another one soon after. I immedietly started recalling these two dreams, writing them down in my new dream journal. After writing down two dreams I had, I just lay thinking for a while, and then suddenly I recalled a third dream which I had completely forgotten about, and proceeded to write it down.

So, even though I don't think I attained any lucidity in my dreams last night, I did manage to recall 3 quite vivid dreams, which is way above my average rate of recalling dreams (usually I can only remember 1 dream if any at all most nights). I've now committed myself to trying to recall as many dreams as possible each night and writing them down, in hope of increasing my chances of achieving lucidity (I've had a few lucid dreams in the past on very rare occasions, however these have always been through accidentally realising i'm dreaming within the dream, I've never experienced WILD before). Overall, this has been a very interesting experience thus far, and I hope to try again tonight. I'm reporting my experience here in hope that anyone may like to provide comments on helping me understand how I can improve on future attempts, or share any thoughts whatsoever.

      Welcome to DV!

WILDs are pretty much one of the hardest induction techniques to learn! However, keep at it, and keep practicing, it's very rewarding once you get the hang of it!

When you tried your WILD were you doing it at the start of the night, or had you been asleep for a few hours and then woke up?

If you haven't been there yet, have a look at the tutorials for more ideas and techniques!

      Hey thanks for the comments!

I tried it both at the start of the night and also when i had woken up after being asleep for a while. Last night I tried the same but with reverse blinking, which got me to fall asleep much faster, but I lost consciousness and just started dreaming. However, in the morning after I had woken up from a dream, I tried for ages to get back in, and then finally I felt myself entering a dream, but at that moment when the dream started to stabilise, my brother woke me up!

Also, I think i need to practice more in keeping still and calm after waking up from a dream, I always find myself immedietly moving around a lot in bed after awakening, and then realising seconds too late that i had just had a dream. I guess I just need more practice at this sort of thing. I will be sure to continue reading tutorials...

Sorry I can't be of much help, myself WILD is one technique I still cannot manage to accomplish!

Closest I can do is DEILD, otherwise known as dream-chaining. You wake up, and you don't stay awake, you're meant to focus on the dream you just woke up from and re-enter it, only usually when you re-enter, you're lucid.

haha i tried to DEILD last night, and i re-entered the dream i previously had, which turned into a conversation with a friend about my intentions of having a lucid dream, and basically the entire dream was a discussion about lucid dreams...and yet still i managed to completely fail to realise i was dreaming...i hope i can get better at thinking more logically in dreams, something tells me that i missed out on a very easy opportunity to become lucid...

      That's actually a good sign

The same thing happened with me (it wasn't a DEILD though, this would have been a DILD had it worked). I was having a conversation with two DC's... they did something that I can't remember, and then they started laughing at me, saying, "Omg, I can't believe you didn't become lucid from that!" and then the other DC said, "What are you waiting for? Someone to spell it out for you?!" I was all like, "Haha, yeah, I'm a dork!"

Then we stared at each other. I had this nagging feeling that I should be doing something (that something would have been a reality check!), but I couldn't quite grasp what it was... And then just shrugged it off, to the dismay of my DC's...

I'm getting better at catching things. A few nights ago, I became lucid because I shot electricity out of my hands at a DC. The more aware you are about your capabilities and the world around you... and the more aware of your dream signs you are... the more chances and successes you'll have for a DILD
