I finally had a lucid dream...

And I thought, "oh my gosh! I'm doing it!" and then I woke up. Ha. Three seconds of lucid dreaming, and I'm frustrated because I can't do it again.

How do I stop myself from waking up when I finally realize I'm dreaming? Will this just go away in time?

Sorry if you get this question a lot. I hope to become smarter and less annoying while I'm here.

      Peace.

Haha, I had almost the same experience with my first LD. I was running through a super-market when I realized I was dreaming. I was so excited, so I started running even faster. Then I looked down one aisle and this really creepy girl was standing in the middle of it, which shocked me and caused me to wake up.

As for lengthening the experience, check out this stabilization guide. It's really helpful for, well, stabilizing yourself once you're lucid.

Also, don't worry about asking questions. No one learns without first asking questions.

      Welcome Chelsea

It's common to get excited during your first LDs I usually tell myself, "Right, I'm dreaming. Calm down. I've been lucid before, and I'll be lucid again, no big deal."

It all depends on your level of control, since no two lucids are ever the same There are different levels of control. Being lucid simply means being aware that you're dreaming while you're dreaming. I've been lucid and had 0 control over the dream. The majority of the time, I just go along with whatever is happening in the plot (not always by choice, that's just the level of control I get... and sometimes it is by choice because whatever the plot happens to be, I want to ride that wave).

And sometimes I get total control of my actions. It's in these cases, for me, where stablizing is really important, because without a plot and DC's to drive the dream, it will collapse around me. When I get this kind of lucidity, I immediately rub my hands together. This usually keeps the dream from fading out. To get the dream back into focus, I have to interact with something. Like touching an object or staring at a smaller piece of the dream scene until I know I won't lose it.

Calm yourself down a bit, look around and focus on things and I've heard that it's really good to spin around.

Ha, I'm really bad at showing gratitude so I'll just say thanks to everyone right now.

Cool, I read through it. Thankyou. I have to go to sleep soon, so I hope I remember if I do lucid dream.

lol, that sounds scary. I remember having one like that before actually. All I wanted to do was wake up, but I couldn't. Meanwhile, a dinosaur was chasing after me. Ha. It sounds lame, but it really was frightening...

yea i just had my first ld last night and since iv been researching and bought a book on it before hand i knew what to do i rubbed my hands together and spun after that it kept the detail nicely. oh a great tip is .... during the day ask yourself Am i dreaming?? then look at your hand look away and think if im deaming my hand will be a diffrent color even though most of the time your awake you might be surprised to realize your at home in bed having a lucid dream. when i did that my hand turned white like a sheet of paper it was awsome

      Help me have a lucid!!

Congrats. Yes, this happens with a lot of people. Most of the time just staying cool will keep you in the dream. Good luck.

When I gained lucidity I stayed still breathed deep and said Im dreaming, keep calm. After that I Went about my LDing buisness. But since I have only once gained lucidity it might not always work
