      newly hatched lucid dreamer's question

Ok, first of all I want to say big hello to everyone
I'm new to this forum, so I'll probably be troubling you with questions from time to time.

I've read tutorials on dreamsigns and reality checks, I also paid a visit to Uncle Thread, called Induction Techniques.

During the span of last 2 weeks I had 2 dreams, the one of which I find unusual.
First one occured, when I tried to keep awareness all the time, while going to sleep. I tried it for fun of it, so I didn't expect so much of an outcome. Still, when I actually was dreaming I noticed that the white ball of light, which I visualized between my eyes (when I was falling asleep), started to move in jerky and frantic way.

Then I realized that this is a dream. I know that this was a lucid dream, which lasted about several seconds, I got too excited that's why it got abrupted so suddenly. I couldn't get back to it after falling asleep again.
I understand that, this was a clear-cut case of lack of control of sustaining lucid dream.

The second dream, however, is pretty weird, cause I couldn't remember whether I was aware or not. The only thing I remember is that I had this strong will to swim with a whale shark in the ocean. I remember that according to my will the surrounding changed to a lagoon where whale shark was swimming, so I dived into water to swim with it. Now the thing is that lucid dreaming means control over a dream, right guys?

So If I had a control over what is to happen next in my dream, wouldn't it mean that I was aware of this dream? However, I can't remember being aware during my sleep.

Is it the fault of my memory, or was it just a dream about being able to bend everything according to my will? What do you think guys.

No. Lucid means you're aware that it's a dream. This may or may not come with the awareness of the possibility of control. When I had my first lucid dream, having never read or heard about the topic, all I knew was that I could wake up (and I did).

So If I had a control over what is to happen next in my dream, wouldn't it mean that I was aware of this dream?
Again, not necessarily. You could have just dreamed the awareness that you could control "reality", and consciously successfully exerted this control, without really knowing the reason why you had this power. This has happened to me many times. This might be habitual, with my controlling habits leaking from my lucid dreams over to my non-lucid ones.

Another possibility is that you were lucid for a moment, and in that moment you inferred the implication that you could control stuff. You held onto this awareness, but forgot the basic fact that you were dreaming. Memory is another fickle thing in dreams. Call it a fault if you like, but it's just the nature of sleep. Can be improved with focus and lucidity-increasing techniques!

Hmm, that's sounds reasonable. It was like I knew I changed the surrounding in my dream, and I mean I was aware I could. As you suggest, I just simply focused on that part, leaving out the fact it was a dream and I could have been full aware of it.
Thanx anyways I appreciate your input

PS. I had an LD tonight and I had some of control over it. Yay! I did it
      ....have a lucid dream tonight...
