      Just Wondering...

is it possible cause when i was little I remember having ridiculously bad dreams where i would wake up and there'd be worse stuff going on when i "woke" up. I was plauged every night from age 7 to 9. Just wondering if these were lucid nightmares and if I tried lucid dreaming would these pop up again? Because I don't recall dreams now because i think my subconcious blocks them out.

It's possible that it was a false awakening that was also a nightmare.

But it could have been a night terror. I know kids sometimes get them. I was always under the impression that they never remembered them, but I could be wrong. Anyone here know more about night terrors?

I don't know much about them, but I have a friend who has had them all her life. I'll send her here if she signs on tonight.

Anyway, are these dreams still recurring, or are there any similar dreams that you still have? If so, they're dreamsigns. Remember the situation you're in, and everytime you think about it, check if you're dreaming. When you're in the dream, you should remember to check after a while and you'll realize you're dreaming.

My friend just signed on, but she doesn't have an account here so I'm posting what she's said.

Usually they aren't during REM sleep, so you won't remember them, but it is possible to have them during REM.
Most of the time, in order to remember a night terror, somebody has to wake you up in the middle of it.

I highly doubt that these were lucid dreams, unless you realized that you were in fact dreaming during the nightmare.

In fact, to me the term "lucid nightmare" seems like an oxymoron. For me (and based on what I've read here most others also), once you become lucid your dreams usually lose any capacity to scare you, because you know that it's just a dream and that you can't really be hurt. After I had my first lucid dream (which started as a non-lucid nightmare from which I purposely awoke myself, so I guess it's not really an oxymoron ), I never had any more dreams that scared me.

Ok, i just e-mailed my friend on what he said didnt make sense.....but im not even sure if what i say will make sense...............................i dont even know if im spelling the word sense correctly!
Well first off, you cant have night terrors during REM, they only occur during NON REM, and you will not remember a night terror if you are woken up during them, if you are remembering them frequently then they r most likely really bad night mares. The only way i have ever remembered my night terrors (greatest # = 2) was not being woke up, & going into an REM cycle shortly after, then waking up quickly after that REM cycle so its still fresh on memory of what happened during and before. & during both times it was the same night terror.

It's okay. Everybody here already knows that what I say doesn't make any sense.

BTW, Girismyleader, I could make you an avvy tonight if you wanted...

Called an "avi" for short, it's an avatar -- i.e., the little picture under your name in your post.

It didn't always mean a picture though, check this out: What is an Avatar

The situation usualy went like this i would wake up from a nightmare into like wprse situations which i remember cleary to this day. I was terrified to sleep as a 7 year old. But now i don't remeber dreams at all since my nightmares stopped one random day when i was nine.

      ooooooooooooooooo! i wants'a picture!!!!
      ...um....anyways.....
hhhhhhmmmm, actually they could very well have been night terrors, night terrors ususally only occur in young children when the child is suffering from a social event(s) & is acting in denial during the day or just flat ignoring the situation(s), so i guess you could say it comes back 2 haunt you @ night. so the question is, were you going through anything that could have caused them? the other symptom that shows it could have been night terrors is the fact you grew out of them, most children grow out of them @ an older age, usually because the social promblem(s) go away. but then again some people really never grow out of them (points 2 self)
you said that things would get worse when u woke up? like how do u mean? were the things that happened connected w/the same theme as ur dreams? how would you wake up?

It would go from scary monster's in my dreams and the when i woke up it would be people coming down the long hallway that lead to my room and being murdered very graphically. One particullaryly horrifying one i remember was my mom getting decapitated by a cloaked figure with a top hat. I'd much rathers have unrealistic scary monsters chasing me then watch my dream mother get decapitated by a serial murderer.

It sounds more of you suffering through night mares then night terrors, do you have any clue what triggered those dreams?
