      Hello.

I have been exploring the subject dreams and hypnonsis as of late and I came across Lucid Dreaming. The idea didn't perplex me, considering I had controlled 2 of my previous dreams by myself and conciously woke myself up because I wanted to. The thing that really interested me was the practice of dream recall. I rarely if ever have dreams, sadly enough, and last night I tried motivating myself to have a dream and recall it, the thing was, I couldn't fall asleep that night either! When I did, I couldn't remember my dream when I woke up, I suppose that's because I went to bed at 2 AM and woke up at 7 AM huh? Except... I don't see why I woke up at 7 AM, I usually sleep until 2 PM because I have Christmas break and I'm a teenager. Maybe I did have a Lucid dream or nightmare and couldn't remember it? I could've possibly not even had a dream.

I would like to say a big hello to everyone at this board.

Hello, and welcome! I as well am trying to improve my dream recall, and I’ve found that personally writing them down seems to help; however I don't know if that will help you if you rarely at best even remember one a night.

I've just started trying to exercise my brain muscle in the dream department, so it will take a good amount of rest, meaning I can't stay up late anymore, and focus.

      Hi Beserk
The coffee pot is in the corner.

Is that avatar harry potter inverted or something?

Nick, try setting something up like an alarm clock at your bed, and set it for when you usually dream. If it works, it'll wake you up while you're dreaming, and you can write it down. It might help.

Or you can try setting something up near your beside that is very wobbly and is easily knocked off (and makes alot of noise when it is knocked off). Then, when you dream, you'll probably end up knocking it off- it'll wake you up and you can write what you were dreaming down.

Or, just keep writing them down as usual. You'll get better over time.

      Well, welcome to the board!

Try setting your alarm clock about 4 and a half hours into sleep, this is because REM happens.
Also, just keep a dedicated dream journal, especially until your recall is good and you can recall about 2-3 dreams, if not more, a night.

No, my avatar is a picture of myself edited in Photoshop™.

If I woke up just five hours or less after I went to sleep. Think about it, I must've had a dream, and woken up because of it, but I just didn't remember it. Do you think my will to remember the dream caused me to wake up directly after it?

      Blasts.

I'm going to start getting a lot of sleep and willing myself to remember every night.

      Off topic

I know this is off topic and all, but I would just like to say that to Lowercase Society that I love that song. In fact I love Incubus. It is my favorite group, and I love their whole attitude. Mostly in older records like S.C.I.E.N.C.E, or Make Yourself. They are going to come to where I live, and after that, when I gain control of my dreams I hope to be able to re-live that concert in them forever.

i never had to set an alarm. i just repeat, out loud, "when i have a dream i will wake up." over and over and i concentrated on that. -- more recently, in an attempt to evoke lucid dreams i have told myself, "when i dream, i will know i'm dreaming." over and over before i go to bed. it has worked 3 times so far. -- when i focus all my intentions and thoughts on dreaming i remember 4 vivid dreams a night... but lately i'm lucky to have 3 somewhat vivid dreams. -- if you find yourself woken up in the middle of the night just try to remember what happened... it will come back slowly but surly.

Funny you should say... These three past nights I've told myself "I will awaken from my dreams and completely remember them." over and over. I've woken up after 5 hours exactly for three nights. I have no idea why.

everyone dreams. every night. it's just that the majority of people choose not to think anything of their dreams, hence they believe they don't have them. this is sad, not to mention a horrible waste.

Agreed, I don't want to waste those hours of my life while I am sleeping.

      dream recall

      Hi there Berserk,

Just keep practicing recalling your dreams and writing them down first thing in the morning. Pen and paper should be within reach (I mean try not to even open your eyes) and just jot down the things that were significant like EMOTIONS and people and places and the environment. Chances are, when you wake, you'll recall who was in the dream, how you felt and where it was. Then, as you practice doing this in the am, you'll learn to recall more and more details. And most of all.. BE PATIENT. This stuff can take a long time to master. I've been at it for 10 years and I'm still improving on recall.

      Blissful

I woke up at 3:45 after a dream and remembered it finally. I was so great, I hadn't remembered a dream in years... I layed in bed, and waited to remember it fully, then typed it up on my computer.

      Good job!

I wanted to say that you have to wake up slowly, better dont move and dont flood your thoughts with anything, just let the dream come to you.
Oh... and write it down before you go to sleep again.
