well, if a serving has over 20g of protein (preferrably closer to 30g) then yup! check the nutritional information on the side (i'm assuming the U.S. mandates nutritional info on all consumables...Canada does anyway). keep in mind also that if you mix it with milk, that's an additional 8-10g. personally i use other protein drinks and bars because i like over 30g per serving.

protein isn't going to lead to you gaining mass on its own; protein helps you rebuild the muscle that you damage when working out. damaging the muscle is exactly what you're trying to accomplish when working out because it leads to the body creating more muscle. also, just trying to gain weight in general (i.e. fat) will not make it any easier to work out, nor will you be any more prone to gaining muscle, since fat does not become muscle.
Each new day is a chance to turn it all around.

If you want to consume extra protein, you can buy 30+ pounds of whey protein like I did. Just buy it in bulk and unflavored. I ended up getting a giant dog food type bag of it.
Still trying to decide on a sig.

Slimfast definatly doesnt count as a protein shake. I would suggest swinging by your local GNC/Sports Nutrition store and getting a quality whey protein shake or weight gainer shake....

When i first started body-building, ASDA 'slim-fast style' shakes helped me gain about 7 pounds of muscle.
The extra calories helped, but you would be better off buying some protein powder and make your own weight gain shakes. They're cheaper and tastier than store bought weight gain shakes and they contain less sugar.

1/2 cup oatmeal (Use a food procceser to grind it up into a fine powder first)
cup of milk (semi skimmed or skimmed)
      desert spoon of peanut butter
protein powder (Chocalate flavour is best!)
Table spoon of olive or flax-seed oil
      1 small banana

It totals about 1000 cals. Make sure you stir it well

I'm in the same position as you are NightOwl...I'm in the process of gaining about 15 lbs. in total mass myself.

There's nothing wrong with taking Slim Fast to gain weight...I drank them and was able to get past my weight plateau. (Strawberry N' Cream is the tastiest)

I just drank 2 slim fast a day (usually with one of my 6 meals), however Slim Fast shouldn't be the only protein supplement you take.

Kula made a really good point about making the shakes yourself and remember if you are working out avidly then your daily ratio of protein should be about - 1 gram of protein per 1 pound of your total body weight.

Water intake should be no less than 1 oz. per 1/2 the number of pounds of your total weight on a daily basis.

Again both of these formulas are only if you are working out avidly. I can give you a more customized and comprehensive diet plan, based on your routine...just PM me if your interested.

Also... what is your guys's opinions on how often you should work out? I usually do it every day but I drink some protein stuff too so my muscles heal quickly (I only work my arms on consecutive days, my legs every other day).
