It's brave of you to come forward about those things...

I was diagnosed about two summers ago with Asperger's Syndrome. Although I don't like the name much, I no longer have any qualms with admitting to it.

ive never seen a pyscologist, but my mother at one point was concerned that i had social anxiety disorder back in elementary school. but i think i was just extremely shy, but entering high school i became more social and open with people. however, there is this test online that ive taken several times over the past year and it always gives me a VERY HIGH . it doesnt fit my personality completely, but some of what they say sounds exactly like me . blah.

"Persons with AS show marked deficiencies in social skills, have difficulties with transitions or changes and prefer sameness. They often have obsessive routines and may be preoccupied with a particular subject of interest. They have a great deal of difficulty reading nonverbal cues (body language)"

when I read that I was convinced that I could have that....but then the rest of it didn't seem to fit my description at all. Besides, my social skills are definately deficient, but not as deficient as the description seems to imply. I would be glad that I don't have this, but it implies that whatever it is I have is even more rare....maybe they will name it after me.

Poor soul: "I've got truthbearer syndrome"
Random bloke: "What does that imply?"
Poor soul: "I kick ass, but at the same time I am a douche"
      Random bloke: "Oh....sorry about that"
Poor soul: "NO!!!! That is not what you are supposed to say!!!!!"
      Random bloke: "....erm...then what?"
Poor soul: "'That's a shame' you know...like Grand Master Seinfeld would say!"
      Random bloke: "...right...." (runs off)
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

well they are putting caffiene addiction in the next manual, so that added to the rest will cover a good 95% of the population.

Will.i.am, my son was diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Defecit Hyperactivity Disorder) when he was very young. He was on ritalin and then imipramine (sp).

He was able to stop the medication entirely when I had him homeschooled for two years. As he got older he was able to channel his energy constructively and is now at university studying to be an architect.

BTW.. my son's middle name is William

Good luck with getting better will.

A little off topic here but the United States has way over-prescribed and over-diagnosed psychological disorders. I mean some of those disorders listed in the DSM are just ridiculous. ADD seems to be very popular nowadays. I sometimes think Kaniaz's comment may be true after all. Besides, many kids are hyper just cause that's how kids are, but they get thrown on stuff like Ritalin and Focacin (Simpsons?) anyway, and that causes more problems then solves.

Doctor: Oh my gosh you have the worst of all. YHD.
Person: What?! No! What is it?!
Doctor: It is the You Have Disorder Disorder. Now please write your credit card numbers here and put your credit cards in that box. They will be mailed back to you in a short time. Now let's get you some Ritalin.
Person: Sure anything to stop the horrible thing. What will I tell people now? YHD! T_T

I saw a thing on Adult ADD. Scientists believe that only a fourth of the people prescribed with Ritalin really needed it. Two hours interviewing nervous prescribers of it. A lot actually admitted that they shouldn't have given some patients the medication they did.

I hate medication. Once my father tried to put me on Zoloft. I picked up the bottle and said "Look at the side effects. High risk of killing father. Right here." He took it back to the store. Never will I take unnatural medicines unless it is an emergency, after surgery, or I have a pain I can't fall asleep because of. Even then I am picky. I am not screwing myself up.

I know how you feel. We put enough chemicals in our body as it is without having to add more. Even if I have a headache, I won't take anything unless it's pretty bad or I have something important that I have to do. I don't even go to the doctor unless I've got something that won't go away or is fairly serious. The last time I went to our health clinic was when I thought I'd done something serious to my shoulder and was told that it was just strained.

No. I am making fun of people who believe their doctors without having the common sense to ask for proof on why those doctors have diagnosed those people with diseases. I wouldn't believe someone who said I broke my shoulder if they couldn't tell me the signs of a broken shoulder.

I don't understand where you're coming from...normally when people sense something is wrong (or broken, whatever), they go to see a doctor or a specialist to find out exactly what's wrong with them. Given that the doctor or whomever is a good, honest physician, there's no reason to be suspicious of their diagnosis.

Some people just don't realize that physicians could be jipping them. I am not saying you were wrongly diagnosed, but too many people have cases that have been exaggerated just to get and give medicine to cover up other things.

You make it sound like malpractice is more abundant than it really is. Most physicians ARE honest, and if you're not really ill, they'll come right out and tell you "I'm sorry, but there's nothing wrong with you".

Well, from what I've experienced, a lot of physicians will give a person a "trial" drug/therapy. That way, if the doctor is unsure of what's going on, they can form a better diagnosis through observation. That also gives the patient time to decide for themselves if it's really helping or if it's all in their head (or in the doctor's head). Then, if the trial works but the problem is still there, the decision can be made as to whether or not to proceede with it, drop it, or try something else.

It's too hard to tell whether or not someone is truly honest in how they treat their patients. I typically trust most doctors, but once in a while I can't help but wonder what they're really thinking. I've found that rather than saying, "There's nothing wrong with you," it's now often, "We're not sure but come back later to see if it's improved or not."

I think most people don't take enough responsiblity for their own doctorin'. I regularily wander along to docs, having done a ton of research beforehead, with a particular drug in mind. I outline the reasons I think it will help me, and just use the doc to confirm my research. My docs are usually are totally blindsided by this approach and in shock just write out a scrip for whatever i want.

Suffice to say, my stash is getting rather impressive these days

mmmm, Moclobomide and chocolate, better than morphine....
