Supermodels are repulsive to me.

I have never been attracted to the supermodel form. You know the one I'm talking about. They all look exactly the same. They have that same old figure, and their face looks exactly like other supermodel faces, and their breasts are big and round and fake and boring.
I'm attracted to most women I see. Big, small, light, dark, tall, short... I always look for something I like about a lady when I see one, rather than trying to pick out what I don't. I like everything about the female form.
But for all of my open-mindedness and appreciation, I am completely unattracted, and BORED by supermodels.
So, I am posting because I am curious as to how common this is, and if it is more than just me, then why do we still continue to put the same girl in every fashion magazine and movie? Why do they all look the same? Do you guys find them attractive?

Yeah, it is even a bit sickening to look at them... and I assure you that it's not because I'm jealous. They're just all so coldly, robotically homogenized and engineered to hypnotize and sell things because of their looks. The very concept of models and supermodels is not healthy or natural in the first place, to just be used as pretty objects. They should be human beings, not fembots. What's worse is the implication that every woman should look like one of these fembots. The whole thing is a result of industrialized consumerism and capitalism gone wild, which is another can of worms. It starts to literally destroy people when it comes to things like anorexia, even the models themselves.

So yeah... I'm not a guy, but I agree.

I'd enjoy torturing them with cheeseburgers.

I think most models are repulsive. Some look good but most are just way to thin, besides i don't even know what black heart is inside of those demon looking creatures.

So everyone who has responded and voiced their opinion on these forms of female have unanimously voted that they do not like what they see. Either I got responses from a minority, you guys are lying, or the industry itself has the wrong idea about what beautiful people are.

The stereotypical supermodel twigs are pretty creepy but not all of them have the same gaunt figure that after-school specials will have you beleive. As for them looking "identical," take a bunch of woman within the same weight/height range and you're bound to find similarities. Hell, a lot of them look like women you'd see at the mall except they're much more done up (all the makeup can be off-putting though). I don't fawn over them but I'd be lying if I said all supermodels were grotesque.

I'm not sure what you mean by supermodel. There are a few images that come to mind, and some I do think look attractive. I can understand why most males would be sexually stimulated by them. The problem comes when it's assumed that the image (small waist, giant breasts, long legs, blonde hair, pretty smiling face) is the ideal for all males, and what all women should strive for. It's obvious from this thread that the former fact isn't true. It's a problem when a 5'4 woman finds herself unattractive because she thinks she's too short, or when a perfectly attractive woman happens to have a smaller body type (which I also see attractiveneness in) with small breasts and thinks her body is hideous.

Some models have very pretty faces, but I don't like some of their bodies, way too skinny, plus only bones don't feel good against your hands or body O.O

Maybe you should post a picture as an example. There are those weird looking clothing models that look anorexic, and then there are the Pamela Anderson bodytypes, and probably more.

I agree 100%. Not to mention, the shows themselves are a complete waste of time - no one wears the the clothes they're modeling, and all it does is make them look like human barbie dolls.

I don't like models bodies (far, far too skinny) but their faces I don't mind. It depends on the type of model though. Runway models are supposed to have that robotic, average face so that they don't distract people from the clothes. They're paid to be hangers.

Photography models are usually chosen because they have an interesting feature etc. But then again so many photos are edited, the lighting and makeup is also insane. Contouring, highlighting, fake lashes, loads of other shit.

Runway models are supposed to have a bmi of roughly 18.5 now (which is the skinniest you go without being classes as underweight) but no way are those models healthy. When your bones stick out and you look sick all the time you are NOT healthy.

Yeah, that second picture looks pretty good to me. A lot of the disagreement on this thread is probably caused because people are thinking of two different types of 'models', which those two pictures are perfect represenatives of.

Although there's also the more average sexy model body which is a little less curvy than that second picture, maybe somewhere in between the two. This is close to the bodytype that comes to my mind when I think 'supermodel', and it would surprise me to find out a guy doesn't find the body attractive (although that second picture Raspberry posted seems more sexy to me).

There was a youtube video I watched a few months ago with models who were all about as skinny as that first picture Raspberry posted. I commented that they look unhealthily skinny and someone replied "go back under your rock".

What!? But they would look unhealthy! My friend told me that the size women are supposed to be are a UK 12, which is a US 8 I think?

Most of the girls I know are a UK 8-14, which is pretty healthy in my opinion. I'm a size 10-12 myself, depends what season it is. I do know some though who are rail thin. It's really not that pretty. Maybe with clothes on, because everything's flat and slim, but clothes off? I'd rather not see my ribs sticking out. I'm not a fan of prominant hip-bones either. Just bones in general.

There is so much pressure from the media though. Fashion, movies, celebrities.. No wonder so many girls (and guys) these days feel they need to get so skinny. I just don't know how people find it so appealing.

Skinny girls also tend to lose all shape, which is sad I think. I'd looove to be an hourglass, but just don't have the chest for it. I'm happy as a pear though! :D

The random girls you see in fashion magazines or on the runway are just fashion/haute couture models. Most have an android face and anorexic build which, apparently, makes the hideous clothes they are wearing somehow look better.

Playboy bunnies are not supermodels. Except in the case a supermodel decides to pose for playboy of course.

I'm assuming the "supermodels" described in the OP would fall under the typical runway model look. Vacant, skeletal creatures from an alien planet.

I've dated models, they aren't as shallow as you would think, just because they have a great body doesn't mean they are stupid or shallow, people are people, yes some are bitches and stupid, not all are. I've also dated a few models, but not famous models. And yes, they did seem more vain generally than the general population of women. There are some who are not. I've had chances, I've taken them, then I lost interest. I don't make distinctions though like "I won't date a model" or "I will only date women that aren't models", I discriminate in other ways, usually positive ways like "I only date women who I am attracted to physically, emotionally, and mentally." But actresses generally seem way worse than models. Most actresses (and actors) that I have know were way too into themselves, and fake. They acted in their relationships, in their friendships, etc. I here that Jeff Bridges is a cool down to earth guy though. I would like to smoke a joint with him and rap about life.

I think the ratio of dullness/fakeness : real personality is the same in models as any other group of people. Just going by the ones I've known.

I dont really have sympathy for people who suffer from self inflicted diseases(junkies, obese people). Yes sometimes a persons genes have a say in their physical composure but it is important to take responsibility for yourself and stop blaming everyone and everything for your particular circumstance. My aunt died from diabetes related complications(she was old and obese) and yes being an obese woman she was more susceptible to develop diabetes than the average person but she had the power to simply change her diet but she didn't.

I think it is funny what you brought up earlier about them being selfish. Its funny that in my part of the world people die from too much food, when across the ocean people die from too little food. Thats gotta tell you there is something very wrong with the world.

But I find a girl who is skinny as a twig to be as undesirable as a fat girl. Just my opinion.

I agree partially. People have the power to change themselves, in most cases, but for whatever reason, don't. But I disagree that they should be negatively judged because of this. The situations are, in a lot of cases, probably more complicated than some lazy selfish fat person giving up on themselves and failing to realize that they can work to change themselves. I'm sure some cases are like this, maybe even the majority, but real life tends not to be that simple, so I would not assume this about anyone.

A person might have tried countless times to lose weight and failed. They might have thought hard about their issues with willpower and for whatever reason not been able to overcome certain problems. The workings of the subconscious can be complicated. Psychological issues sometimes run deeper than you might expect. They might eat because of a self hatred. The desire for food, for those who eat to relieve boredom or depression, can be very strong.

If the craving for food is very small for you, it's easy for you to resist it and to label someone who eats a lot very weak-willed, but only because you might not realize how much will it would really take to overcome their problem. And that if you were in their place, you might find you wouldn't have the willpower to resist it either.

From the outside, it's easy to say that you would have adequate willpower. If you've never really had a problem with willpower, it's impossible to tell whether you really are better at summoning it than some people, or you're lucky and the urges which you have to overcome with willpower are just not that strong for you.

I'm just saying that this is one of the things that could be going on, and it seems a pretty unrealistically black-white view to label all fat people negatively without knowing them and their motivations. To me, a typical fat American has probably tried to lose weight and failed, maybe tried quite hard and failed. They aren't bad people, but they shouldn't be labeled with some disability and give up either. Too little is known about them to label them negatively.

(I'm not fat, but I've had terrible willpower issues in other areas of life.)

You do have a point. And it's probably more the companies who make this addictive food who are the ones to blame.
But for some reason I can't help feeling disgusted by these people. It's literally the only thing which has ever caused me to judge someone.
It's simply not in my character to judge people straight away. Those sorts of things just don't even cross my mind.
But for example, even just my family eating fish and chips or chicken or something at the table. I see this and suddenly look at them in a completely
different way; and it disgusts me. I just feel completely horrible.
To me, I think, it just seems like pure selfishness. That's the only thing I can think of for why I feel like that.

I have an auntie (and it makes me shudder to even admit that we're related) who is fat and has diabetes. She is on insulin and just keeps eating the same shit she always has. She recently lost a toe and it got infected and everything. It's disgusting.
So that is selfish too. Some scientists work incredibly hard (creating insulin) to help people who have diabetes. Yet these people don't care, they just take everything for granted. They are a waste of life.

The thing is that too skinny is an eating disorder, and too fat is an eating disorder. Both these people suffer from insecurity around their self-image. The anorexic has too much will power and a distorted body image. I saw an anorexic in the health food store. She was at the bins of food and she was nibbling on a few grains of dried uncooked rice. She bought coffee and put tons of sugar in it. I watched her. I wanted to buy her an avocado if I thought she would eat it. She looked like a famine victim. It was creepy. Someone who is overweight is not that creepy, unless they are grossly overweight. Overly obese people also suffer from something pathological. I know a very sweet woman who gave up at one time in her life. I am trying to help her overcome the obstacle that she let settle on her. She is motivated now but she has a lot to overcome. I know what you mean by watching people eat like pigs is gross. As if that food is the highest pleasure in life and happiness is scarce and if you just keep eating maybe you can be happy. This is like a pig, and it is gross.

But a lot of things are gross and the people who suffer from these things are people like you and me. When helping people you have to deal with a lot of gross stuff. Love makes it not gross. A mother changes her baby's diaper several times a day for a couple years. I used to take care of old people and mentally handicapped people for a living and I had to shower gross people and deal with diapers and vomit all the time. I guess my point is that it is easy to judge people and to be disgusted by unhealthy bodies and minds, but the help they need is for us to see beyond that to who they really are so that they can recognize that within themselves and bring themselves back to balance.

And processed gross foods are to blame also, and pharmaceutical companies and the media and our obsession with models and superficial physical "beauty". I remember seeing a hot woman in line at a gross hot-dog cart to buy a hot dog. My friend asked me if I thought she was hot and I told her "No, she eats garbage."

Really, there are beautiful women who could be models, and some are. But the models in the magazines are just like disney cartoons or barbie dolls. Not my idea of beauty. Porn stars are really gross. Especially when they aren't wearing make up. And they don't know how to make love. It is all acting. Uh oh, I better stop before I start ranting too much.

This is true. There are some who are just fit. But there is still undoubtedly some anorexic women, or heroin addicts.

Models sell sex appeal, agents know that anorexic is not sexy. Guys like nice long tone legs, nice soft plump breasts, and flat tone tummies, and a healthy beautiful face. Anorexia gives you none of those, it gives you stick legs, completely flat chests, bumpy rib-filled tummies, and thin, sickly faces.

Just to clarify I dont think obese people are a waste of space or bad. I was implying that I have limited sympathy for someone who is suffering from a self inflicted condition.

@Dannon O- Ive had to care for the mentally handicapped as well. After that experience I found myself not as creeped out by people with mental disorders as I was when I was a child. I feel the same way about the hotdog lady lol. If I see a hot girl eating meat she becomes automatically not hot whatsoever.

As for models I find some hot others not. I don't follow fashion (I wear a plain white tshirt and jeans everyday lol) so I don't really come across enough models to have an elaborate opinion on them.

I'm with you, Stormcrow. I feel bad for overweight people the way I feel bad for drug addicts. I'm not comparing them, as far as morals go or anything like that... BUT both problems are due to at least some sort of lack of self control in a lot of cases. (NOT ALL CASES.. A LOT OF CASES.)

For those who are saying that we're all jealous of not getting "hot" wives and girlfriends/making an excuse to be overweight.

A runway model of 5ft 8inches usually weighs something beween 105-120 pounds. This is underweight and not healthy. A person who's a healthy weight and that height should weigh somewhere around 140 pounds.

I know what you may be thinking. "Weight isn't reliable because of muscle nanana" but do you actually see any muscle on these models what so ever? A 110 pound 5ft 8 model has probably wasted most of her muscle away.

Over-eating is considered an eating disorder, and it is one. When something shit happens to someone, a lot of times food is affected. They either control their food/can't eat, or they binge and use it as a comfort. Anorexic people (my best friend is anorexic by the way) always drag themselves down, never see themselves as good enough. People who overeat do this too. Then again, that doesn't mean I think it's ok. They shouldn't just accept it and eat themselves to death.

I'm also not one of the people who believe it when people say "I was born to be fat, it's my genes." Because my dad's from what would be considered a fat family. Most of his family died in their early sixties from heart attacks and other shit like that. But when my dad was 17 he joined the army and guess what, he's never been fat. Ever. Even now, at 47 he's still a perfectly healthy weight. Genes play a part but in the end you need to stop eating stuff that's shit for you, get off your ass and exercise. If only it were that simple for some most people.

So many more people are getting insecure about themselves. The media's a bitch and size 0 models aren't helping.

Some people also just don't put on much weight. One of my friends who is a model eats like a pig (not really unhealthy food, just a LOT of food lol) and she is tiny.
She's rather short too, maybe 5' 6" I suppose. But she obviously has a really fast metabolism and she also exercises a lot. She's a good type of skinny, like fit looking and really toned etc.

So my point is, it's not the "size 0" models Raspberry. It's the people who decide that they are the perfect beauty and put them on stage. i.e Everyone.
It is humans in general that think this body type is attractive. Because it is a healthy body type. Obviously there are a few extreme examples and you're just like wtf?
But I think generally these girls just have fast metabolisms and exercise a lot. I think the anorexic people are put there to get media attention tbh.

There's always going to be people who have something "wrong" with them and take something the wrong way.
For example the anorexic inspiration websites. Or in a different issue, people who take a book seriously and become scientologists.

Some people just do this sort of thing; assume that what they are told or shown is concrete fact. When in all likelihood, most people do not care if you are not the "perfect" image of beauty. Most people are attracted to that perfect image, of course, but also they are attracted to someone who they see something else in, which would not be considered perfect.

See, what I just said was funny because in that picture thread, you implied that I try to make smart jokes and then go to far with trying to explain them, increasing the awkwardness as no one cares. That could have something to do with it. I've always thought it's mostly that humans don't naturally perceive women to be as funny as men. If the same joke is told by a man and a woman, even in the same tone of voice, it just seems like it would be funnier coming from the man. I think it has to do with what we naturally expect from men's and women's personalities, and there isn't really anything that can be done about it. But are men naturally better at coming up with jokes, even disregarding expectations? I really don't know.

Beating jokes to death is something my dad does. He thinks he's being funny, and occasionally is at first, but the humor is lost when he starts laughing to himself and going on about it, then looking at everyone, expecting them to continue laughing. It's kind of annoying, and I don't think I tend to do it. If I'm terrible at joking, it can probably be explained more by the fact that I rarely interact with people in real life and have almost no experience with trying to deliver jokes, than by the fact that I'm female. Anyway, I don't know how this even got to be an issue. I very rarely even try to be funny.

Hmmmm. No I think women and men can both come up with jokes just as well. Women just seem generally to not know how to deliver them.
Sometimes they try to set the joke up too much and you just get bored by the time they get to the punch. Or they explain it too much generally.

For a woman who is shorter than me to weigh more than me is strange. Anyway, everybody is different and some people are healthier if they have a few more pounds. There is genetics also for example samoan women should not be too thin. Eskimo women should not be too thin. However I have never seen an overweight person in Japan. Their diet is very good. I have seen overweight Japanese Americans. I think that maybe some of you who are using examples of models you know might just want us to know that you know models. And then some of you say that we are jealous because we have ugly wives or girlfriends. But I am getting off the track of my point. My whole point is that I don't think it is attractive to be good looking for a living. I don't think it is attractive to get paid to be objectified or to objectify yourself. And it isn't just their bodies. In fact the ones who are not too underweight do have very nice bodies. But it is their faces that bug me, their make-up, and their personalities.

Good question. Many people are good looking though but can't get paid for it because they don't fit. Models are all very homogeneous. That is my point. And also people don't get paid to be admired and show off how smart they are. They are paid to solve problems and figure things out and to manage operations because they are smart.

I have a friend who is a male model and he is ridiculous. We were at work and he calls to make an appointment to get his chest and back waxed, even though he wasn't very hairy. But I remember when he got the idea to go into modeling. It was so funny. You have to know him.

Cliff: An agent gave me his card today and said I should go into modeling. I think I should do it because girls always are telling me that I am intimidatingly good looking. Seriously, girls won't talk to me because I am so good looking!"
Us: Dude, you are a hippy!
Cliff: No! I will get my haircut and style it all the time! Don't you guys think I am good looking? I am tall, dark, and handsome! I am meant to be a model!

Anyway, he did it. He made a transformation and he would always dress in stylish clothes that were way too tight on him, his chest was always waxed, his hair was always styled with lots of gel in it, and yet he lived in a cabin in the woods with no electricity. His personality even changed and he started acting like Derek Zoolander. He got a myspace page with pictures of himself in his underwear and all of his modeling pictures. His myspace friends were all gay looking models. It was funny.

Even I did some modeling. When I was a homeless traveling camper!!! These people came up to Oregon from L.A. and approached me on the street because I looked "cool". They were doing a photoshop for details magazine that was about people living off the grid with solar power and passive heating, etc. They got these gigs at all these houses deep deep in the woods that were all off the grid. They brought all of us hippies up there and did our hair and in each picture we had to wear different clothes by these designer name brands. I was wearing my flannel shirt that I brought up there and the photographer woman asked: "Oh that is a nice shirt! What brand is it? That looks grunge." I laughed because I had no idea what brand it was because I had gotten it out of the free box and had been living in it while I was camping. They asked me how I did my hair and how I got it like that. I said, "I wash it in the river and comb it with my fingers." We went out to this place where these two hillbilly hermits lived that was at the end of a seventeen mile driveway through seven gates. Even though the place was in Oregon you had to go to California to get to the driveway. I made about $1000 selling the photographers bags of pot. They make-up artist was this flaming gay guy and I told him that I didn't want any make-up. He gave me some clothes to wear from this big rack of clothes in a Motor home and he tried to stand there and watch me change! I told him I needed privacy. We had to post in lab coats when we were in the control room for the solar panels and wear fake nerdy glasses and stuff. Then we had to all wear these bathing suits and get in and out of the hot tub. It was a culture shock. One photographer guy pulled me aside and in a Los Angeles kind of way said "Don't tell anybody but I am going down to L.A. this weekend to photograph Tom Cruise's birthday party and after-party! Yeah, Tom is a cool guy." I was wondering "Who am I going to tell, and what difference would it make?" A big thunderstorm came in and the driveway started getting muddy. The two hillbilly hermits started showing the crew his gun collection. I told the photographers that we needed to leave soon or we would get stuck out here overnight with these guys. We barely made it out there. We got stuck a few times and my friends and I had to push these vehicles out of the mud a few times because nobody else wanted to get muddy. And they were all scared. Then they were all bummed that their cars got muddy and meanwhile they didn't even thank us for pushing them out or didn't seem to care that we got all muddy and they didn't. They just kept naming different famous people and acting like they were best friends. And they all said that they were Buddhist just because it was trendy.

Another friend of mine was a Calvin Klein underwear model about twenty years ago. He told me about how they stuff cotton balls in the underwear to make the bulge look all nice.

Well, the point is that it is a strange culture and as far as the culture goes it is very shallow. I know that some models are not shallow but in general you have to be shallow to live in that culture.

Regarding the smart thing. Some do get paid to be smart, sort of. Like going on talk shows and interviews and that sort of thing. Like those child geniuses and genius scientists at the top of their field.

Yes, smart people DO get paid to be smart. But the ones who admire themselves or want to be admired for how smart they are also are not attractive. If someone is smart, but doesn't care or has no ego about it then that can be attractive. I guess that it is where it becomes too much a part of their identity and they are too proud of themselves that removes them from a level playing field at least in their own minds. A poser is a poser.

I don’t tend to be attracted to supermodels, though the person as a whole can drastically change my mind. Physically, I find both women and men who are somewhat underweight less attractive than if they were somewhat overweight. I enjoy a little healthy layer of fat.

That being said, my attraction to someone can change almost instantly depending on what they are like mentally and emotionally. I was repulsed at first sight by my first love’s looks - then in my eyes he became the most physically attractive man I’d ever seen.

Sure they are, when a person is a heroine addict they're hurting their family, friends, and community by taking away who they were and supplanting it with a more egocentric version and focusing their time on drugs. They can become very harmful to people around them (abusive, stealing, etc.) if their addiction progresses far enough.

The compulsion to overeat (even though the person intellectually understands it’s harmful to their body) has similarities to the compulsion to reflexively judge (even though the person intellectually understands that not all fat people are selfish or lazy). Both compulsions can potentially change, but it often takes a lot more work to change than it seems from an outside glance.

When I was very young, my mother had to take me to the doctors because I did a very nice slice that required stiches. The doctor took a look at me, and went into a fit. Threatened to turn my mother in for child abuse--claimed she was starving me to death. After calming the doc down, it was explained to him that I out ate everyone. I always went back for thirds and made sure the table was empty. I was born with anemia. And frankly, it is painful, however, it is a pain you learn to live with.

In college, one student took a blood sample from me, and was puzzled at what she saw, she had to have her instructor explain it to her, severe anemia.

In my mid 30's, at near 6' and 134 lbs, I decided to see if I could do something about it. I took up body building. It does work, it actually hides my anemia. I would work out for a few months, then quit. God it was so painful. I would take it up again for a few months and quit--each time gaining a little more weight. I am now at 213 and no one would suspect my condition.

You can teach your metabolism.

Also, ego doesn't explain your repulsion to models. Since that's the only way they can make money through their looks, unless they strip or something. They may hate it. This is correct, you can train your metabolism but it takes alot of work. I am anemic as well, not from birth but from dietary restrictions, and the past couple months I have been lifting weights every other day in addition to my regular workout routine, which has helped tremendously, I feel great. Good to know Im on the right track.

What? Heroin addiction destroys the body! First it destroys the liver, then the immune system, and if the junkie doesn't die from an overdose he will die from liver failure. That's pretty much what I found when researching as well, though not from any particularly reliable source and I got tired of looking, bleh. One source was a heroin recovery center, so I'd be surprised if they left out big physical consequences. I'm not completely convinced though it is surprising that it might be the case that heroin itself doesn't cause major physical problems. I do agree that heroin being illegal is a source of a lot of problems. Thank you for bring that up and helping me be more open to those thoughts in relation to heroin.

Regardless of how oddly pleasantly surprising that shift in perspective is, the information addresses the physical consequences. The psychological consequences of an addiction or attachment are often profound and extend to harm others as well as the addict.

One of my friends dad takes heroin. He doesn't really talk about it but I know he's bitter in some way. He used to deal but I think he stopped after getting picked up or something like that. No. I am not claiming to take the stance that being so caught up with physical beauty and perfection is unenlightened merely because I am covering insecurities. I look just fine. I really do think that physical beauty is unimportant next to many other valid factors.
