This is something that always ticked me off as a life-long computer enthusiast. These kind of stoopid people goto school for two years for some computer science because it's some fad. (And employers are dumb enough to hire them, and trust them with company-critical information.) This really ticked me off reading this on rentacoder.com today (I mean, how the hell do you fail a Visual Basic class with that major!): My name is ****, I am student who has taking INS as a major. I have one semester left and i failed a VB6 course last semester. the teacher told me to get him a project and that he would erase the F and give me a C. This F is the only thing holding me back from Graduating. If i dont get him this project, i will have to stay an extras semester, take the course over and i dont have the time or the money. The project is an AddressBook. I have created the Address book already. I just need someone to add a listview and treeview to it, showing what is in the database of addresses and names, This is very important that i get this done, someone please respond as soon as someone feels they can help. nice rant; i hate idiots too; especially the dumb ones like in that quote, asking for a completed program just to pass a class that they're too dumb enough to pass in the first place.. and then they'll get the job.

Wonder what they would do if they ever had to take a real class, like an advanced communications design class. Or one of the serious OO classes using C++? They didn't even off VB in my degree curriculum.

I know Object Oriented programming in C++. You know where I learnt all my programming skills? From one big fat yellow book, entitled: "C++ For Dummies"

Well, here's my history with programming and computers: Had a XT machine when I was four, made basic proggies for it (almost all the software on that thing). Learned HTML and Javascript when I got my first real computer at the age of eight, a Toshiba Satillite!!! Those machines are the most kick ass computers _EVER_... Fixed computers in my elementry school, made school website. Learned electronic design. Learned C++ about three years ago, I'm ok with it (enough to work with the Linux kernel). I studied for A+ two years ago. Never took the test due to lack o' funds. Learned PHP a years ago. Never use it though. Got halfway through Java last year, then figured out it was retarded. Learned ARM asm and PIC asm about a year ago. Learned to program Z80 stuff, mainly calculators. Fixed computers as a independent study class, figured out the problem is always the user, as computers only do what they are told. Figured out I didn't have the nerve to work as computer repair man. I'm most of the way through x86 asm, I can't do it by heart yet. Taking computer independent study, kicks ass because I can program in class. Learned all about HP print servers. Learning all about radio electronics (damn, those people are smart!) I'm most of the way through studying for my CCNA, I should get it in a few months. ----------------------------- I think I just owned that poor guy's ITT Tech degree! Oh well, he can work for me I guess.

No it isn't. It's a lot slower than other languages, but it's multiplatform and easy to learn. Try applets -- those suck. I haven't bothered getting into Swing yet... eh, C++ is basicly almost as portable across os'es as Java, and it promotes good use of open source. And Java isn't quite as standardized as C. And C++ with cgi owns applets. I should try python sometime... C++: 3 Java: -2

are you kidding? msgboxes are like subquantum theories in comparison to some of the stuff ive known people to not be able to understand...for example, ive known people who do not understand the difference between a file or image or something being on their computer, and a file or image or something being on the internet...they think its all the same...baka
