      Do you remember... GOOD Videogames?

Ok... so I have been playing ratchet and clank for the past week... do you remember good videogames? remember how they kinda dissapeared? They might be making a comeback!!

Ratchet and clank "going commando" is probably the BEST game I have played in a very long time.. Granted I grew up with a sega... always thought mario was weird... So Sonic was my man, platform games. They have sucessfully adapted the platform to the 3D environment with this game. Its not that easy, the game is long there is so much to do and to explore there are mini games racing hoverbikes, battling in the arena for money doing different challenges... there are weapons galore and various gadgets like tractorbeams grappeling hook. Jet pack, jump boots too so many choices!!! It reminds me of metroid kinda too that was an awsome game...

You learn about the characters its a story that you unfold! whoever wrote it was kickass there humor suspence twists its great!!!

Also its not just the concept of ratchet and clank, the gameplay is very good, it takes a little to get used to, there are alot of combinations you need to use to make use of various jumps, boosts, glides. But you would expect it to be complicated right? its a 3d environment! also!!!

The music, the score is GREAT I am actually gona rip it to MP3!!

ok I am done ranting now... i uhh well.. yeah I gotta go back to playing... 0_o hahh, I just rented it.. I am going to buy it, even if I beat it while I have it rented, the people that created this game DESERVE the revenue!

thats how good it is!! *melts warm fuzzies*
I now have to go rent the first game, see you can start on the second game they give you an idea what happened in the first so you dont need it but I WANT to try it out =)

And have you seen the commercials?!!?! AHAHAHA BWAHAHAHAHAH I swear, thats me and my room mate doing that shit, lol that reminds me, I have been too lazy I am gona work on that backpack powered rail gun

Hmm, never heard of that game. One game I really played the hell out of was wolf 3d. Also I played a lot of doom 1/2, blake stone, duke 3d, blood. Blood was actually my first online game. I played it on mplayer I think it was called. I also played a lot of hugo's house of horrors. Don't forget Loom or monkey's island. Both classics.

Edit: for those of you who do not know of HHH... Aside from moving somewhere the game was based on word commands that you had to guess. Being 10 made the game a little difficult to play.

Break pumpkin. Pickup key. Unluck door. Open door. etc etc

Games these days are pretty much unoriginal.

Postal 2 is a good game, though.

I remember postal 1... I think postal 2 is okay but not my type of game. Anyways, I have lucid dreams for senseless killing. I usually kill undead things though.

yah, i agree actually. i've been meaning to buy URU lately.

by the way, i played Hugo's House of Horrors. that brings me back. my favourite video games will always reside on the old NINTENDO system. i'd say the Legend of Zelda is my all time favourite. i've never known any other game that i could go back and play again and again and still really enjoy. i still play it to this day (although i find i have to blow a lot into the cartridge and the NES to get them to work).

btw, anyone play SHADOWGATE? i loved that one too.

Ratchet and Clank is an ok game. I don't like those kind of games though. im more of RPG and Fighting games. I loved Battle arena toshinden 3 and Grandia 2. They were both my first fighting and RPG game.

*raises her hand* I'm a Nintendoholic. I remember Shadowgate. Guy had too many heart attacks (you never really got to fight anything). I loved that game, though. I must have played it a million times by now. I wish there had been more story though. You didn't know much about the dude you were playing or the land you were in and that stuff always interests me.

Anyone remember Alone in the Dark? Sweet goddess, that game scared the hell out of me! Not only was it just damn spooky, they quoted and imitated actual dark rituals, right out of the black bible. *shudders* I'm impressed that I made it to the end of the game.

I also liked the 3DO (it's where I was first introduced to Alone in the Dark). Anyone remember that ancient system? Star Control II kicked my ass. I never did get to the end of the game. I got stuck in a loop toward the end where every time I reloaded, the Kor-Ah would wipe one of the other races out of existance. I could never get there in time to save them. Aside from that, my ex and I used to beat the crap out of each other in Battle Mode.

Let's see... other games of honorable mention: The King's Field series brought us hours of intense RPG-like goodness. Biohazard/Resident Evil for the Gamecube was just fucking phenominal. I can't praise that game enough.

The one that's got me all hot and bothered now though is Doom 3. I so can't wait for that game! Soon, oh yes, very soon it shall be in my sweaty, eager little palms. Doom was such a groundbreaking game. I realized that Wolfenstein came first, but there really wasn't much to do or see there. Doom was the FPS that really blazed the trail for all these other ones. Not only that, on the PSX version, you could link two tele's and two PSXs and have a grand old time in Co-op or Deathmatch--without the hinderance of split screen! *shakes her fist at Bill Gates* Damn you, bastard for not doing that with the X-Box! Sixteen player deathmatches are wonderful, I admit, but I would much prefer to have my own personal screen, thanks.

And then there's always my good old standby. The game that will never sit idle for long. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 I'm a sucker for a good fighter. (I mean 'good' like Super Smash Bros Melee and Soul Caliber 2, not crap like the Tekken games).

*Steps off her soapbox, careful not to trip and break her foot again*

Well... I loved every mario on the SNES, and TLOZ: Links awakening on the gameboy still rocks ... (I guess its just some sentimental value since I was like 8 when I played it and 12 when I finished it, lol) then FF7, Metal Gear, (never owned a console though, always played at friends or borrowed one) etc but mostly I game on my PC nowaydays... I got a killer gamer system, 2.8ghz + HT, Corsair TwinX DDR400, ATi Radeon 9800 pro and I found out that I'm a natural in FPS's ... so I really want UT2K4 since I totally own at UT2K3... I never played much real FPS untill I played the UT2K3 demo and sort of won alot, without ever practising mutch. So I played more and got better and better... heh!

i hear that! the game is short and there isn't much story development. but then, that's kind of the way things were back then eh? and, well, sort of the way things are w/ a lot of games these days too. ahwell.

A friend of mine ripped that song onto an mp3 player, we hooked his player up to some speakers and played it really loud in our classroom. It rocked.

All those old games were pretty cool, but when I look back at them, sometimes I think 'Is that what I spent my days playing?'. However there were some timeless classics, for example I loved and still love Super Mario Bros.(I used to play 2 player with my brother and finish the whole game before he even got a go.) But Sega Megadrive is where the retro-quality was at. It still has the graphics and games to hold itself No. 1 retro-wise in my eyes. One of my most favourite Retro games ever is probably 'Alien hunter', it came in a 5-game cartridge with the Sega and the replay value was through the roof. On the topic, Ratchet and clank is one of the coolest games ever made, but good games never really left. There has always been good games in some form or another. You just have to know where to look. I've never had any trouble finding good games before.

But I downloaded it for a NES emulator a while ago and i ended up wondering to myself why it was so challenging to me. I just thought "This is insulting to my intelligence" I still had fun on it but i whooped it.

Sonic was the man. Did you ever play that game Sonic 3D for sega? I played it and it was really confusing in some places. It looked really good for the time it was released though.

Did you ever get Super Sonic on sonic 2 or 3? (DBZ ripoff )

I played pretty much every sonic game up untill the dreamcast =)

I suppose your right, there have always been good games, I just hadnt found a really good one that I got absorbed into like Ratchet and clank.

As for fighter games... Tekken sucks... Soul calibur has no equal.

FPS games.... I am about ready to explode from anticipation waiting for Halflife 2 and Halo 2 to come out... GRAAHHHHH must have NOW!!! but then again I dont want them to be rushing things =P hehe

Icedawg, I havent played through much of URU yet, lol working more on the language and the caligraphy of it rather than the game =) Actually the weird text on my new pictures on Deviant art is the D'ni language, the font does an ok job. I am only at a transcription stage still learning the language mechanics and words.

      Edit:

Ooo I just remembered, speaking of retro games that kicked ass..

Alysa Dragoon, other than Samus she was probably one of the first few kickass female characters.
The game was good for its time as well, awsome music, good graphics... and it was HARD... wholy crap! Well If you never played it she could control lightning, and would blast enemies with it, you could gain powerups for it too, she also have a menagerie of creatures with her, you could select one at a time, a dragon a little lizard that shot out boomerangs, a firefly/willowisp thing that attacked baddies by hitting them, and my fav, a bird that blasted everything on screen with a tunderstrike, it sounded cool too hehe.. anywys, if you get the GENS sega emulator I suggest you check this game out! =)
I wish they would make a remake of this game, I think it would rock =) throw her in a 3d environment, make special tasks that each of her familiars could preform give her some bumpmapped jubblies with advanced jigglephysicsand you would have the next lara croft

anywhoo.. yeah stuff.. and yeah..she was my first videogame crush =P

      [size=24] SONIC OWNS!!!

I have all the Sonic comics except the ones where they started basing it on the dreamcast game. Most of those new ones sucked.
