      need computer help.

ok i have no clue what's happening. after a while i stop getting any pictures to load in my internet explorer. like right now i can't see any of the emotion guy off to the left... the blue dreamviews logo that's usually in the upper left isn't there. that little bar in the lower right still shows that i'm loading the page... but nothing's loading. i even went and ate and the little bar still hasn't moved. WTF is wrong with my computer. i have the latest anti-virus software and i've run a scan of my entire computer. -- the weird thing is, it will load pictures for a while then after one point no more pictures will load. could it be something in my settings? please help.

      windows ME
      the latest internet explorer
      broadband dsl
uhh that's all i can think of.

      thanks, jake.

**edit**also, after i posted this it just went to that information screen where it goes for a few seconds then shows you your post... it wouldn't leave that screen... it just sat.

      **double edit**
and when i hold the curser over my tool bar and the little web address box it has the hour glass thing happening.

Ok, on a more serious note, I would advise you to check your internet settings. Go into the advanced settings in internet options and make sure you check the show pictures.

      here

hrm. could be lots of things. the whole "Windows ME" thing scares me; does your computer meet the requirements of XP?

is this happening all over the internet, or just on this site?

you could try clearing your cache. sometimes things can get a little buggered up if something is corrupted or whatnot in there. (tools->internet options->delete files->check box that says delete all content->press ok)

perhaps you have phone line issues, or your ethernet cable is in poor condition?

is your hard disk completely full? if so, deleting crap and defragging should help speed things up.

it might be ISP related. i have dsl as well, and i've been noticing lately that the connection keeps dropping, but only at certain times. i'm beginning to suspect they're disconnecting me during peak usage times, perhaps because i have a router that maintains a connection 24/7. evil ISPs.
Each new day is a chance to turn it all around.

My ISP used to do that.

And, please, PLEASE! Upload pictures as .jpg's or .gifs, not .bmp's!

Dude, and you're making jokes about winME?

Adidas: I think its more a thing that your internet connection is buggered somehow. Are you connecting trough a router, proxy, anything else?

the pictures wouldn't come up anywhere. i cleared the cache. checked the settings and those were fine... right now i can see images, but it will go away after a while, so i'll check my settings when that happens and see if the box is still checked.

i have qwest broadband dsl with an external modem. i don't know what a router or proxy are so i'll bs and say i have a proxy

i restart and everything is fine for a little while then it all happens again.

k, it's still happening. i check my settings and they're set to let me have pictures, i cleared the cache again but it's still messed up. i'm going to restart then try to reinstall internet explorer, if that doesn't work i'll defrag... we'll see how it goes.

      mozila=teh suck.

      Okay.

Determine wether or not you've got a proxy installed (client):
      1) Open IE.
      2) Click Tools>Internet Options
      3) Click "Connections" and then "Lan Settings"
      4) Click "Advanced"
      5) Are any fields filled in? If so, you have a proxy.

Determine wether or not you've got a proxy installed (server):
      1) Use windows search for "analogx", if it comes back with a proxy program, you obviously have a proxy
      2) Use windows search for "proxy", if it comes back with a proxy program, you obviously have a proxy

If you haven't got Kernel32, you haven't got half of windows. Reinstall!
